Do you keep backups? - Wildfire - 09-16-2016 Backups are a rather important part of my computing ecosystem, I still back up to DVD monthly. Got me thinking, how many of you actually do backups? It's crucial, but your backups must be kept secure as well. I actually encrypted a few of my backups a few years ago, but now lost the keys. So, the questions: -Do you keep backups? -If yes, to what medium? -What do you elect to backup? My answer: Quote:Yes, I keep backups. RE: Do you keep backups? - ChaosAgentGG - 09-16-2016 Im a crazy son of a bitch and dont backup... Needless to say when my pc takes a dump, which is rare... its a huge one lmao. Probably should, if I were to Id definitely only have an extra hard drive to back up onto RE: Do you keep backups? - Bish0pQ - 09-17-2016 I have different hard drives. It also depends on the type of file. I'm not uploading illegal content/files to online storage facilities. I keep all those things on external hard drives (all disconnected from the internet). I have somekind of a server like storage box, where each hard drive is labeled and sorted on older or newer data. I have a spare thin client which I use to manage these hard drives and if needed a simple fileserver (for like hard drives with movies). Also, data like my websites or tools or whatever, I store all of those on DVD-R (as back-up). Since it's much easier to label it than to use an USB. RE: Do you keep backups? - mothered - 09-17-2016 Given my daily computational tasks, backups are performed each and every day locally on several external HDDs. I have redundant backups on 3 externals. I simply cannot afford loss of data due to corruption or otherwise. RE: Do you keep backups? - Skullmeat - 09-17-2016 I keep backups now. I learned the hard way what happens when you don't. RE: Do you keep backups? - Altair - 09-17-2016 I keep backups on my external drive, also storage on clouds too. At one point many years ago, I didn't perform a backup (from one external to the next) for a number of weeks and my main external caved In, therefore I lost Irreplaceable data. Since then, daily redundant backups have been part of my computing regime. RE: Do you keep backups? - Ex094 - 09-18-2016 Yes, I keep backups of my important data on the cloud and on a separate drive because you never know when you get struck by a disaster RE: Do you keep backups? - Mr.Kurd - 09-18-2016 Yes, I keep backups of my important data and my windows drivers. RE: Do you keep backups? - Wildfire - 09-18-2016 (09-18-2016, 06:43 PM)Mr.Kurd Wrote: Yes, I keep backups of my important data and my windows drivers. Why back up your drivers? I personally have a policy of only backing up the data I consider irreplaceable. Drivers seem pretty replaceable. |
