Imagination >< Knowledge - 4tune - 07-21-2016

Is imagination more important than knowledge or is knowledge more important than imagination?

A similar question popped up in a conversation between a work colleague and I earlier on today (we always have random conversations which leads to conversations such as this, haha), and I thought it'd be a decent topic here on Sinisterly.

Knowledge is undeniably important, there would be no advancement without imagination. Imagination is key to innovation and creativity. Debatably the most important advancement in human history was when humans became hunters and were able to develop tools with which to hunt. If they had no imagination - they would never have thought to put a rock in a pouch to create sling with which to kill an animal from afar. All advancements require someone to think outside of the box and create something, regardless of whether there is any hard facts that would support their idea.

Knowledge needs imagination to progress.

There's a balance and you need both. Science is science, but without creativity and innovation there would be no new discoveries.

Not to mention if creativity wasn't a thing then many cultures would be different.

You need to ask yourself "how Is knowledge created and attained?".

It must derive from somewhere, and that's where Imagination comes In to effect. Imagination creates knowledge.

The answer to this is subjective and completely depends on the given situation. Also, I think you're confusing imagination and creativity.

In either case, knowledge is more important IMO. Think of it like this - on something like an exam, knowledge is obviously the key player, and creativity has nothing to do it. However if the task is creating a new medicine or technology through innovation, creativity is obviously important, but applying the creativity still heavily relies on knowledge; they do not rely on each other equally. You could argue that when it comes to things like art and literature creativity is more important, but those two subjects don't contribute to humanity nearly as much as science and new discoveries.

TL;DR - knowledge is more important.

If they had no knowledge, they wouldn't know that hard objects moving at a high velocity can be fatal. Again, this is supporting my narrative that creativity in these cases rely upon knowledge.

Knowledge is more important. Imagination without knowledge would be quite pointless.
