UK Leaving EU - Oni - 06-24-2016

It appears people voted in favor of leaving the EU. It's awesome that a country can take back its independence these days. What will the UK do with it, is the question? GBP has already dropped in value to reflect changes and Cameron is planning on resigning, to allow for new leaders and negotiations.

The cherry on the top of this fantastic cake is that Cameron is resigning! It's just great. If you want great laughs check #brexit on Twitter, pure salt mine. People equating this vote to proving that most of Brittan is racist.

The market will re-stable its self once the city boys stop shitting them self's. London was the only area to support the EU, no wonder the markets have shat them self's.

I feel like it would stabilize, as the UK isn't exactly relying on the EU. What about the 350m a week the UK sends the EU? I feel like this would impact countries relying on or supporting the EU more. I don't think the referendum had anything to do with race, although there are always people crying wolf when it comes to racism.

Bruh if you can't see the racial side to Brexit than you really do have your eyes sewn shut. A huge part of the Brexit movement was to close off the UK's borders to the rest of the EU to prevent "unwanted peoples" from making their way into the UK easily. Most people are using the same old "they took my job!!!" argument that republicans in the U.S. have been using since the end of Reagan's last term.

"But Dyme! It isn't about race! The brexit people could be talking about white people who they don't want allowed into the country!"

Now I will refer you to the following billboard by the Leave campaign.

Very interesting how the leave movement has decided to use a line of (brown) refugees as their prime motivating message to close the UK's border. The similarities to the Leave movement and the xenophobic rhetoric of Donald Trump is almost uncanny.

And who is that charming man in front of the poster? It's none other than Nigel Farage, the leader of UKIP. And well, lets just say UKIP has had more than a few incidents where they have been accused of blatant racism.

Why listen to me though when you can hear it straight from the horses mouth?

I'm not saying the entirety of Brexit has to do with race - of course it doesn't. But if you can't see the racial component to Brexit, than you are either uninformed or willfully ignorant.

@Dyme

And so what? The refugees have not brought anything to the table but more strain on the system. Nobody can really say it on TV but that's what it is mostly about. The EU is straining the UK's welfare and housing system by dumping loads of these people who have no education and no skills.

"No education and no skills", you act like these types of people don't have a place in the global economy. We in the U.S. have been having this same argument with immigration from Mexico from people who are fleeing violence. Who cares if they are unskilled or uneducated? You're acting like because they are unskilled workers they have no value in society. In America, our economy depends on a large workforce of unskilled workers to do the jobs that U.S. born citizens wont. Alabama tried banning illegal immigrant labour (Alabama HB 56), and it was almost universally considered an epic failure as "Industries dependent on migrant labor have been strongly impacted. Farmers have found that Americans are not willing to work under such harsh working conditions for low pay.[15] Some businesses in other industries have lost workers, including legal workers, as a result of the new immigration law.[16]"

Also, can you please explain further how the EU is straining the UK's welfare and housing system through accepting refugees? From what I'm reading, the UK has only accepted 1000 refugees, which should barely have an effect on the NHS or housing... If you have statistics to back up your claim I'm more than eager to read them.

Also its worth noting that only 1% of the average brit's taxes go to the EU. Another reason why I think people are blowing this whole thing out of proportion.

I'm not saying that they have no place in the economy, I'm just saying that there is a limit, because at this point, only a handful of EU countries are being FLOODED with unskilled labour. I admit I did not know the actual statistics of UK's acceptance.

So what does this have to do with the EU again? The EU doesn't get to dictate how many refugees each of the countries has to accept - they are more focused around ensuring mattress manufactures have a fire retardant label on their products...

It also pains me that the Brexit people and others are so quick to turn these refugees away. "Well they don't help us so why the fuck should we take them!". Perhaps maybe because they are fleeing war and have no where else to go? Have we as a society really lost the bare amount of empathy needed to help these people? They are refugees from WAR. Their homes have been over run by an organization that beheads, drowns, and tortures the people who they capture. Where exactly do you want them to go? "Anywhere but I live" is not an acceptable answer.
