Should Black History Month be a thing? - Jacob_mybb_import13674 - 02-24-2016 Just a good discussion honestly. In my opinion, i'd rather cancel it out and add it into our history classes rather than a full month where people just go "oh they went through slavery." Willing to debate. RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - Sirius - 02-24-2016 It's stupid imo. I also don't like when black people use the 'is it because I am black' card. I luckily don't have this. Everyone just goes "oh recognize black people" but know nothing about their history, and then white folk cry "where's our month" when they don't realize we are the only history in history books in America. I think it would be more productive to just bring a class into HS or MS, rather than noticing a color on someones skin. RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - Silence - 02-26-2016 While I do think that their ancestor's should be acknowledged for their accomplishments, feats and hardships, I don't think for an entire month. Nearly every country's beginning, even throughout the Biblical times - slaves were present. Blacks were not the only one to do so. So, not entirely stupid but a bit too lengthy imo. Note that this is not racism either, I'd have said this regardless of race or ethnicity. RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - Alpha_mybb_import13563 - 02-26-2016 It's stupid how it has to be a thing, we still have it in England, but for graded History we have a whole course on Black rights + Woman's Rights so it's not really necessary although for people not doing that, I think it needs to be remembered. In conclusion, i think it should stay until it is put into basics of History, which everyone has to do. RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - -Wolf- - 02-27-2016 NAH NIGGA, Where is white history month for us crackers??? RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - Wit - 02-27-2016 I personally don't think there should be. Other people will have their own thoughts on this. RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - Zodiac - 02-27-2016 Honestly, I don't mind it. I know black people went through a lot with slavery and what not. But having a month dedicated just to that is a little pointless. Yeah, maybe a day or two, but a bloody month. RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - Sirius - 02-27-2016 Black people shouldn't be mad if people say something to them and they use "slavery" as an excuse unless it has happened to someone close or themselves. As far as I know, there is close to no slavery nowadays. If anything, there is Indians and Bangladeshi maids who are forced to work and can be beaten, so I would consider that slavery. Do an Indian or Bangladeshi month. RE: Should Black History Month be a thing? - Soup - 02-27-2016 I think we should still have it, but the only issue is, is that it lost it's meaning. People don't look at Black History Month and think about MLK, Rosa Parks, etc and all those who actually did make a difference. Instead they think about things that not exactly mock it but aren't valuable either such as those tweets, etc that say, "this is what MLK died for" and a picture of a black guy and a white guy shaking hands or something. People totally overlook the idea of civil rights and what MLK really did stand for. It wasn't just for blacks. There are other minorities who suffered too, yet people don't take that into account nor do they understand what civil rights really is. |
