Thief 4 heading to Next-Gen consoles - Feat - 03-05-2013

Eidos Montreal has officially announced Thief 4, following a media leak from a Russian website GamesManiac.

According to US magazine Game Informer, the sequal sees series hero Garrett return to the dark, gothic, industrial metropolis known as the 'City'. Here we see the hero looking 'to steal anything and everything that will make him richer.'

In its official announcement, Square Enix promises 'first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose their paths through the game's levels and how they approach and overcome each challenge'

Eidos Montreal's general manager, Stephane D'Astous said of the game: "We're handling a precious gemstone with Thief. Fans remember the original games very fondly and we want to preserve that essence - which we have excellent experience of doing at Eidos-Montréal - whilst also introducing Thief to a brand new, next-generation, audience.

"Our goal is to deliver the fantasy of being Garrett, THE master thief, and we're building this game around that core experience."

Speaking to Official Xbox Magazine Eidos Montreal's D'Astous claimed the series revival would "bring more than just stealth".

"We have more international staff working on Thief, which brings a great flavour to the game," D'Astous said. "There are a lot of challenges to bringing back a great cult IP, but we consider it like a new IP and we are going to respect the spirit of the franchise like we did with Deus Ex.

"Deus Ex was the kick-start of this new series of great games, and Thief will be part of that, and Thief will be part of that. We don't want to deliver the same each time. Our mandate is to bring new stuff to the table; games that we'll be talking about for years."
