Easy External Hard Drive Upgrade - Skullmeat - 02-23-2016
So, how many of you own an external hard drive? I had a Seagate FreeAgent, which used USB 2.0. The problem was, it was so slow to transfer files. I considered getting another drive that had USB 3.0, but it would have cost quite a bit, and all my backups were already on this one. So I came up with a cheap, but effective solution: Buy a USB 3.0 enclosure, and migrate the drive from the Seagate to it.

Works flawlessly, the transfer speed is much faster, and I saved myself alot of money.

...and this will NOT void your warranty? (because Seagates have a notorious rate of failure)

It does, but this drive is several years old, and is far out of its warranty anyway.

Yeah I own actually quite a few external hard drives, since my regular hard drive (SSD) is only 240 gb.
I have one 500 GB HDD for movies, one 1 TB for games and various personal files, one 1 TB for work, school and programs, one of 750 gb for virtual machines and also movies.

Same here.
I have 4 HDDs (WDs) for daily backups, and another 2 for testing purposes (when performing digital forensics on data deletion & recovery). Western Digital have served me well over the years, hence I've stuck with that manufacturer.
