Do You Eat MSG? - ねこまっしぐら - 04-24-2015

I try to limit my MSG intake because it is really bad for you. It's essentially a neurotoxin and tricks your brain into thinking whatever your eating tastes good. So do you guys eat a lot of MSG? If not, tell us your reason and if you agree with mine.

Certainly you have reputable sources that its classified as a neurotoxin, right? Cos if you're referencing the excitotoxic effect, they've not found any data that at normal amounts of intake, it makes any difference, even in people who are self-proclaimed sensitive, unless you've done your own review and testing that shows otherwise. The guy tested on mice ffs, and going into that test had the mindset that humans will be more sensitive to it. I don't consider his test very conclusive.

The FDA has reviewed it multiple times, using different sources and different methods, and still concludes its generally safe to use in a food product.

Yes, the amounts of its use in practically everything is increasing, but as of yet, unless you are going out of your way to consume it, there is no reason to believe that it will harm you.

This whole anti-MSG thing seems spread on the wings of misinformation, kind of like how vaccines cause autism.

I didn't say that it was a neurotoxin nor was referring to it as a excitotoxic. It will kill your brain cells. However, it is not that bad in moderation.

Part in bold.
And the excitotoxin bit is the brain damaging bit that's usually correlated with MSG

I said essentially, but didn't say that it was but that it was very similar to one because of if you eat too much and it will over excite your cells and they will die. I am not trying to mislead you or construed my words, but that is what I have said.

Something like that, it's a science. I'm not a scientist though. Biggrin
