Traded my truck in - Earth - 03-15-2015

Well I finally had the guts to do it I traded my 1994 Chevy Silverado Extended cab with 240,000 miles in at a dealership. My truck ran excellent it may not have looked pretty but it did the job. The issue was gas mileage 13 to 14mpg is not all that cheap to keep up with.

I now have a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT, has 132,000 miles it runs good checked the oil and transmission fluid it looks like its never burned a drop ever so I think that means the original owners at least kept the mechanical maintenance up. Only issues with the car is the clear coat, rear view mirror is gone and the fans shake when they kick on which is all nothing major at all a couple bolts and screws a $20 mirror and she is good to go. The paint clear coat does not bother me just yet but I eventually will re-spray it.

Anyways this is a new move for me because GM has never let me down my family has never missed the 300,000 mile mark on a GM vehicle we usually make it up to at least 450 to 500,000 miles with GM vehicles.

But I guess its time to give other manufacturers a try so hopefully Dodge don't let me down now. If I end up really liking the car I might slightly modify it to get a little more power out of it not much.

Just don't be a prick and modify the muffler system, unless you absolutely have to to keep it running. Nobody but the people who drive them like ridiculously loud cars.

As long as you keep up your maintenance on it, Dodge is pretty great. Only thing I could say GM, or at least old GM has over Dodge, is that I can put off maintenance on my Buick for weeks, even months past, and it still runs amazing.

My dad owned a Dodge for a long time. They're fairly reliable.

The most I would do is throw on a Cherry Bomb glass pack but that is not something i'm worried about. I don't throw on fart cans like all these Honda,Hyundai and even many Dodge owners seem to do.

I had a glass pack on my Chevy that I traded it deepens, and gives it a mean but settle growl nothing like a fart can.

I hope all goes well with your car. If I owned a neon it would have to be an SRT-4 because tarbo, but I'm not a huge fan of FF cars Smile.

It would be better to get a SXT for cheaper insurance then just slap a hanh turbo kit on it. They make turbo kits for the 2.0's and with a few other slight mods it will be just as fast as a SRT-4.

But just a little more juice is all i'm looking for I don't want to put a shit load of extra power on stock internals.

I will probably just do simple mods such as

Cold air intake
Performance plugs/Wires
Catalytic converter removal

I could expect around a 20-25hp increase with just those simple mods.

I don't plan to drive the car hard I need it for 4-5 years at least.

Any plans for a custom ECU with a remap? If you've got a fabricators near you, you could get a few ~.00 millimetres machined off of your piston heads for a tighter compression.

Nope maybe in the future if I can get me a jeep cherokee or an older blazer then I will make this Neon my toy to modify and put money into like that.

But its a daily driver now so I cannot put any time consuming work into it.

A to B is my goal.

A new map on the ECU may improve mp/g, but I understand where you're coming from. Tongue

Heard transmissions on dodges were fucking terrible :/

Taking material off the pistons would decrease compression. Did you mean cylinder heads?

Depends on the vehicle but they can be a bit dodgy at times (see what I did there? lol, that was unintended)

The 41TE in the minivans and some of the passenger cars tend to have solenoid pack failures/issues. The 46RE in many of the larger vehicles and trucks have been known to be spotty a times due to electronic gremlins.

I've owned 4 dodges, all older vehicles. 3 of them have had some kind of funny trans stuff going on at some point. Auto transmissions in general can get be real finicky though, so I don't know that it's an accurate review of dodge transmissions as a whole. A lot of it can be traced back to poor maintenance by previous owners.
