Best language to use when working with Unity 4? - Nyx - 02-15-2015 I recently started working with Unity 4 and I am wondering what a good language to learn is that works well with the Unity engine. I plan on making first person games, and I don't expect them to be massive/complicated, just little lightweight games to start off with. Any suggestions or any help are appreciated! RE: Best language to use when working with Unity 4? - lux - 02-15-2015 If I remember correctly, Unity uses JavaScript or C#. I'd recommend using C#, purely because I feel it's more documented (In terms of using it within Unity). I remember reading that C++ is the main language to use for game development but it's difficult to learn, is this true? Also would it work well within Unity due to C# and C++ being both in the C family? Some will have a wider knowledge of programming, though. So that narrows it down to JavaScript and C#. JavaScript is developing into a fully-able language with NodeJS and the online JavaScript game engines. C# being a part of the C family will be relatable to other C languages, which are used in program/other game development (DirectX games for example). Take a look at this video, and see which one you prefer most. Spoiler:
Most languages are fairly similar and you can apply common principles and practices across most languages, try as many as you like until you find some fitting your needs. |
