Survival Kit - Earth - 01-08-2015

A survival kit is very important, No matter where you live, how safe you think you are you should always prepare. Preparing may seem stupid but here is a simple question would you rather live or die trying or just do nothing and die?. Our world is full of unexpected events now just take a look on the news every day something happens such as terrorist attacks, natural disasters, tensions heating with other countries and all of it can come down to a point where you need to get out and go to a safe place whether that be a bug out location in the woods, making it to some destination far away or what not. A survival kit can help you make it possible to get to your destination and sustain yourself while you are there.

Many people think survival kits cost a lot of money but in all honesty it depends on how far you are willing to go. I highly recommend you do NOT purchase any pre-made survival kits and instead create your own. You can create a budget survival kit for as little as $100 and even less if you push it. Also just check around your house to see what you have laying around that could be useful to throw into that kit.

My kit cost me probably around $180 with most of the cost being on knives/cutting tools. The contents of my kit of which I still am working on improving/adding to are listed below, you can feel free to use it as a base for your survival kit.

CONTENTS:

Spoiler:
3 sets of Nylon rope (25lb 30lb & 50lb)
Electrical Tape
Duct Tape

Mini old hammer
Cotton/Dryer Lint Tinder
3 Ferro Rods including 6" by 1/2"

10" aluminum pan
Small grilling rack

Nice kit but here is my question if your forced to resort to a survival kit chances are your house and you everything you own died along with your legacy and purpose. (This doesn't apply to Kim kordashian). So in my defense what's the point of surviving?

Some people (myself included) would just be content with living. Tongue

Because living is worth it, A house, and stuff I own are just THINGS people loose there houses and property in fires and they continue on. See people back in the olden days such as the american frontier/old west had almost nothing and they lived life (maybe not so long) but they did.

I personally could live without electric and all modern day things they are just comforts. People til this day live with absolutely nothing and they continue on with life take a look at the tribes in the amazon forest.

Also Cherokee and Senaca run through my blood and even though I have zero experience in there exact way of life it still interests me.

I might lay it all out and snap a picture of it but need to wait for a warmer day because my room does not have enough light in it since I use energy efficient lights.

Yeah Fire is important lol.

As long as you got the basic stuff that is a good start, my kit is not the best but I am building it to my needs and what I think will work out in my area. I will probably throw some freeze dried foods or something in my pack to get a little boost because having the stuff to hunt/trap does not mean you will catch anything. I actually plan on getting some rat traps and some beaver traps to get better chances, them rat traps can handle up to the size of a squirrel just got to drill a hole in them and tie them tight to a tree or something. because it cannot kill a squirrel just trap it.

BTW Ramen Noodles last for like ever and would be good to throw in a couple packs.

Here is a picture, I was re-organizing it tonight so I snapped a picture of some of it but not all of it. I did not take stuff all out of the containers, etc though. The list did change up a bit because I did away with some things and added different things.

I also now store some items in my car that way no matter what if i'm home or away I will always have something.

Given the contents In your survival kit, the price Is pretty good.

I had a pre-made one and It was no where near as what I expected It to be. They just slap cheap, flimsy Items and sell It far more than what It's actually worth. I shall take your contents under advisement when the time comes to build mine.

The pre-made ones are always over-priced the reason is because there is a lot of people who are starting to get into prepping but many of these people do not have a clue where to begin so they go for already made kits so manufacturers see it as a chance to get money.

Take a look at the Henry Repeating Survival Kit, $99 is extremely over-priced.

Buy a decent knife that is reliable and tough, get a backup blade and then get the rest of your gear at Walmart. Be sure to get gear that would work better in your area, my kit works for me and my state but may not work for other states or locations.

Walmart usually sells camping/survival gear less then the MSRP. Coleman & Coghlans products are good just stay away from there knives. The Coleman Folding saw is alright though which you can see to the left in the picture and my beloved Bacho Laplander to the right. http://i.imgur.com/Vs1Tnwv.jpg
