Question - Difference between C++ and C# - Nael - 12-05-2014 Greetings Sinisterly, I've recently decided to start learning programming to a next level, and I've chosen the coding language C. I've done some research on the differences between C, C++, and C#, and I know that C++ works on all OS while C# only works on Windows, but I'm still left with one final question: The main differences between C++ and C#, and what can each program / make / produce? Thanks for your help, and I hope this answers the question to whoever's wondering too. -Nael RE: Question - Difference between C++ and C# - dopamine - 12-05-2014 .NET framework gives you a huge list of ready-made functions to use with C#. .NET VM manages all your memory(unless you use pointers or unsafe mode code) This decreases development time at the expense of performance. When developing in any .NET language you will be mostly only using the .NET ready made functions. You can't code kernel-mode software(drivers) in .NET. Its impossible. C++ has a lot optional libraries such as Boost, Qt, etc. C++ doesn't handle your memory, you must be aware of everything you allocate and you must free it at the appropriate moment otherwise a memory leak occur. C++ has a lot better performance. You can't compare C# and C++ in a CPU intensive task. When developing in C++ you will be using the API your OS gives you(WinAPI for Windows). TL;DR; C# is trash for anything than a hello world application. This reply is from personal experience and are pretty much the only worth mentioning differences. I really thank you for helping me, and give you my great appreciations. You've made everything clear to me, and I'm gonna go ahead to start C++ ![]() Sorry, but I've also got another question, which is that what is a 'pointer' exactly? (Mentioned in 1st line). Thanks, Nael RE: Question - Difference between C++ and C# - Blunt - 12-08-2014 difference between C# and c++ = two plus signs <3 lol RE: Question - Difference between C++ and C# - dopamine - 12-08-2014 (12-08-2014, 03:17 PM)Nael Wrote: what is a 'pointer' exactly? http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial/c/lesson6.html RE: Question - Difference between C++ and C# - Q.Z.F. - 12-09-2014 Learned all this from The Art of Exploitation... Good read, I would suggest picking it up a few years ago haha |
