He tried putting the .iso file on it but instead he mounted the iso file onto his USB.

Based on that it looks to me like he burned the image to a DVD, as opposed to creating a bootable USB.

Oh right didn't see that part. Then you need to fuck up really bad to do that instead of putting it on your USB.
