[Video] Ted: "Why is my daughter so strong? Because I didn't clip her wings." - Deque - 08-03-2014

A very moving talk about Ziauddin Yousafzai's daugther, what it means to be a woman or a man, and how inequality of rights affects both genders negatively.

Yeah I know but I didn't know that. I thought those kind of things only happen in China.

There's two sides of every story. I know many Pakistani people, from what they tell me, only poor people who (since they're poor, don't have any formal education) are backwards in their country and who don't acknowledge women's rights and such, the rich and the middle class however are quite more accustomed to norms and pratices of developed countries. The reason why we only see people like Malala is because the majority of people in said country are below the poverty line and are thus, uneducated which would further lead them to being backwards, and since they're in the majority, that's pretty much what the media focuses on, and that's fair. The educated people in Pakistan aren't against women's rights and they do infact welcome women as proper members of society. It's the same thing with any country where the majority aren't educated or are living below the poverty line.

Although, some of my other Pakistani friends tell me that this hole incident with Malala is staged, and is used by the US to continue Drone Strikes within their country (Which is, more or less true, they did pretty much use this as a reason to continue drone strikes and offered further "assistance" to the Pakistani Government)

As I said before, these kind of things happen in any 3rd world country, where the majority lives below the poverty line and where the majority is uneducated.

Though I replied to this thread on another forum. Still I would like to say a few thing. The condition of women in my country is not better. There are a lot of people who still try to suppress them.

Underestimating a women's capabilities is just bullshit. This sort of orthodox thinking in the 21st Century is very harmful for the living society. Restricting them and keeping them aloof from their Human Rights while discriminating them based on their gender is no less than a louse for humanity.

What are you scared of People ?

Do you fear that they may become better from all the men on earth and hence restricting them ? Maybe Yes it is. The world history is full of examples where women have done marvels, Joan of Arc, Mother Teresa, Rosalind Franklin, Marie Curie, Ada Lovelace and many more. One may say that their count is few, I would say that that the reason behind their count is the topic of discussion here and the reason mentioned above. Also there is one Bill Gates, one Steve Jobs, one Srinivasa Ramanujan.

Every human has got the potential to create marvels but depends on what perspective is being taken into account. Everyone cannot be a scientist or a great Philosopher but everyone can do marvels in their own life and for their family or their country, and in my honest opinion, this does have great importance.
