creating a linux installer from current linux? - dmaxx - 07-11-2014 From time to time i need to install linux somewhere due to either a problem or just a new system, and usually i need use hours or so working trough everything that need to be added, configured, and all the usually shit, not to mention trying remember what i did have on my old system and what settings that did work and not along with everything else to remember and to be honest, i kinda start getting tired of it really.... sure i can do it and i will if i have too, but is there a way to make a installer of current system with everything that is on it so next time i need to reinstall or install it somewhere else i could just plug in, hit install and after it was done everything was already there, including all the files and such so i didn't have to go trough all the same shit and instead do what i should be doing? sure, i know the complications that may arise from trying to doing such as rarely a system is the same and thus need figuring a way to change the right info, and for all i know it is already possible, that's why i ask, to see if someone already have manage doing that and if so then how.... RE: creating a linux installer from current linux? - The Real Slim Shady - 07-12-2014 Well, you have a couple options: 1. Use something like CloneZilla to create a disk image. Then just reimage the drive. This only works if the system is essentially the same however. But it will keep all your files 2. A number of distro's have utilities or software available (3rd party though) where you can save your current install and create a fully bootable/install dvd with all your settings and apps and configurations. They wont save your /home directory or other misc files though. I used to know the name of a couple of these apps and have used them myself - but I cant remember the name... started with "re" though. Sorry cant remember/cant find it. But it worked well on Ubuntu. If not, but I think I understand what you mean. I think Suse SLES has such a tool. Or like user above said, create an image. Also you could try Porteus, a lightweight and portable Linux distro, it is trivial to create an iso from existing installation. It also has online custom iso builder. That was bothering me haha RE: creating a linux installer from current linux? - BroZix - 07-12-2014 As I'm in hurry right now but I will advise you to download YUMI and use it to make bootable USB with any Linux/Programs needed. Click It's just few clicks and is ready :Thumbs-Up: To make your own distro which you can customise and what can be included with it I recommend to use Remastersys or Reconstructor.
