1440p Space Wallpaper. - Spritsinz - 06-02-2014

Hey [username]! I wanted to show this off, its a massive 2560x1440 wallpaper I made called "Celestial Home". I wanted to capture the shear beauty of space(I really love space and such) and put it into a window frame, now note! I do not use Photoshop, I use GIMP... And I am no where near the level of mastery as some of you :Yuck: but anyway. Here it is! If you want to have it take it, all of my art I make for free(unless its a requested piece) but enjoy! \

Let me know what you think! I am always looking for criticism to expand my abilities!

Its nice but i can't tell if the person siting is a guy or girl. And what does it represent the song i got my eyes on you. And if so why are there eyes not on each other. And if they are then how come they are dating. And if thats so how come there no kissing. And also what is with the weird ocean on the moon does it represent people in the future on the moon. If so why not mars. Why blue why not orange. Or are you a blue lover. And if thats true should people who like blue not see this. Full criticism given Smile

No no its fine! This piece was kinda a spur of the moment thing. But the person sitting is a boy. And it's just a piece of a celestial home(some would call it heaven), and they lady is the mom. And the ocean I wanted to represent a water body in space(sounds stupid but I have a strange mind haha). And I love the color blue, and with the water body with that moon I made I needed some colors that matched(I hate unbalanced palates).

This piece I will keep working on(I will update this thread accordingly). But thank you for the criticism. This is the kind I like! It's what keeps me motivated and imaginative! Thanks man! :Grin:

I actually like this kind of criticism! The cynical kind(pointing out the little things) it helps me see things I missed.

Welp here comes my critism I hope you're ready because it's maybe a bit harsh, I'm just trying to give you some stuff that you can work on and look out for in the future.

Almost everything is really low quality, The moon, The background, The water, That's never going to look good on a 1440p monitor or any monitor really except a really low resolution one.. The windows(with the woman) don't fit in at all, These are better quality though so that's a good start.

The aura like orb that you have I would put that under the moonlayer instead of above it, That one actually looks pretty decent.

Then my last point, Is it supposed to be that you're looking through a window or something? I find the black bars really strange. If you would do something like that you shouldn't make it blurred but make it with straight lines. Maybe even vertical lines only.

Got it. Like I said this is on GIMP I don't have the luxuries of PS sadly(Working on it, not a pirated copy too). And the woman in the windows I will work on blending more! And as for the aura orb I will try putting it under the moon layer Smile

and yes, I wanted to try a style of you're looking through a window pane(I have a copy without the window bars), and I will try vertical lines.

Well I would just get Photoshop if I were you, It takes some getting used to but it's really amazing, I also started out on a free program called Paint.net. I would just pirate it, As long as you're not making it your job(Like working in a design studio or something, They have to have licensed programs) you should be fine.

Here's a little example of a good(IMO) executed "looking through window" wallpaper:

For the quality, You probably need better resources (Find another moon that kind of stuff), NEVER stretch anything, If it's something with one color you can vectorize it with Illustrator and then import it.

Only downsample stuff, Say you need something 800 x 800, Find something that's 1000 x 1000 and then make it 800 x 800.

Also DPI is just for printing I just have it at default in my photoshop and I normally put it at 300 in my Illustrator.
