Don't get caught using Photoshop for Fake Receipts! - ILLROOTS - 05-05-2014

If you've ever used photoshop to edit a receipt.psd to SE a product from somewhere, then you may have unknowingly killed your chances.

Photoshop is one of those image editors that likes to stick in metadata and EXIF data.

This means that it's possible for a company to check if you have used photoshop to edit the photo by checking its headers or whatever, and getting caught like that isn't so great since it kind of gives them a case against you for fraud.

Want to know how to avoid jail time?

hiding this simple step just to annoy leechers lol

oh and open Photoshop and go to File -> Save for web... once you're done editing that beautiful proof of purchase

Once you've completed those important steps, select JPEG as the picture type since most cameras take photos in JPEGs, then find the Metadata section and change it from "Copyright and Contact info" to "None".

Now as long as you did a half-decent 'shop you probably won't be acquitted on charges of falsifying receipts BiggrinBiggrin

Great tips on avoiding being caught when using PS. I would think though with the amount of people that just smartphone snap a receipt there would be another less questionable way. Someone could Photoshop the receipt and print it out. Then trace the dimensions of the new one over the printed one and cut it out. After that the receipt could be artificially worn a bit and then placed onto a table to snap a smartphone pic. As long as the material used closely resembled the material used in the ink and paper, it should pass.

Here is a cool little program I've used in the past to examine and remove image meta data (especially from images taken with my phone): http://www.steelbytes.com/?mid=30

@kasakari great idea. That adds another layer of security. Just remember to turn off geo-coding when you snap the picture or someone might try and correlate the date/time of the receipt against the photo you snapped.

@Firemonkey Thanks for that addition. I forgot about geo-coding when I was writing that.

You need to look up the definition of acquitted. Nice buzzword but it pretty much reverses the entire meaning of that sentence, and its a little bit nonsense.

Nice tut, Thanks for the information. However i prefer the long process of printing out my design to paper, trim to fit and then scan back to PC for verification. It makes document look very real.
This method hasn't ever failed me Smile

Also, a simple Google search will yield plenty of results for programs or How To's about removing/modifying a files metadata. Very easy as well as a good practice.

An easy way to remove EXIF data is to upload it to anonimg.com. It doesn't require downloading any software and your image is kept private unless you share the link.
