RE: Website Management - invisal - 04-02-2014 You may as well look for "Disaster Recovery" plan. RE: Website Management - XTRMS4NITY - 04-02-2014 Can you tell me more about it? I am interested. You mean Risk Mitigation? RE: Website Management - invisal - 04-02-2014 @XTRMS4NITY Let say your server storage is corrupted, your web hosting company that you host your website got bankrupted, someone accidentally delete all your records, your company got hit by earthquake. You want to make sure that no matter what happen, you can get your data back and ideally, you can bring your website back as soon as possible. RE: Website Management - XTRMS4NITY - 04-02-2014 @invisal, Wow. Honestly, that was not in my concern until you told me. Thank you so much bro. I think it is one of the most important thing about managing the website. I have 2 passive servers running just for "disaster recovery plan" because losing data could cost the whole business to collapse. So basically, a "disaster recovery plan" costs is like an insurance cost. You need to pay although you know that the possibility of losing data is extremely low. RE: Website Management - DaPaus - 04-02-2014 You this is actually really really important. I got hired for a little project at a little company, they were online for like 1 year. So you could say they were quite new. The companies IT team was 1 cocky IT manager that tought he knew everything better. I had to develop a little app to search clients in the database. I asked him if he had any recovery plans etc. or back ups. His answer: "I don't need it, the server has a RAID 5 configuration." I warned him that wasn't enough... I also warned the CEO but the IT manager convinced he it was alright. So I finished the app and after a few months the company called me. 2 Of their HDD crashed and the IT manager said it was my fault because of the app. The funny thing was the client database was running on another server. A long story short. The IT manager got fired. And they hired me to make a backup plan. I made a backup server in a RAID 1 configuration. RE: Website Management - XTRMS4NITY - 04-02-2014 @invisal: did you mean that I need to have backup servers, running so if my main running server experiences "disaster" I could just point my DNS to my server, right? |
