What light weight Linux distribution would you recommend for crappy laptop?

that would depend on how light weight and how crappy. Are we talking an intel p3 type processor circa 2001 with 128 mb ram or are we talking Centrino with 1-2gb ram circa 2007?
There are tons of operating systems and it would be best to find one thats suited to get the most out of your hardware without overloading it.

Crunch Bang Linux but I must recommend that you should have 1 GB of RAM and a Processor of 2 Ghz or Above, otherwise running Linux would be no fun.
