WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - xevenofhearts - 06-11-2013 If you didn't know already, WWDC happened today, where Apple released a bunch of cool stuff, such as: OS X Maverick - which I don't really know what's so great about it Unveiled new Mac Pro - FINALLY. iOS 7 - which is what this whole thread will be about. I recommend you read about some of the new features before reading this thread. http://apple.com/ios/ios7/features iOS 7 looks awesome. Well the live wallpaper (stolen from Android) does. And the simple icons (Pretty, but less customizable than a stock Android device) do too. Multitasking seems to me, a blatant rip off of WebOS, back when it was alive and well. Still think the camera app isn't up to par with Android's, just completely in love with the smooth navigation on the 4.2 camera. Filters, yay, had that for nearly a year over here... Notification Center, Android notifications, but not as good (but don't worry it looks pretty so it's all okay, right?). New photos app looks cool, but still features I've had for forever on Android, in fact since Android 2.2. (That was released quite a while ago...) AirDrop, AirDrop... Apple won't include NFC so we made this, a feature Bluetooth handled for all this time. Yay for innovation, Apple. Safari! Must say, this looks really nice. Tabbed view that Chrome for Android has had for months! And a unified search-URL field, even Google didn't think of that! #sarcasm. Shared links is a pretty cool feature, honestly. Don't see too many people using it though, considering they see links shared from Twitter, on the Twitter app, not Safari's link page. Nonetheless I guess it's pretty cool. Safari now has a password generator, that takes your passwords and remembers them for you, again pretty cool feature, but I feel like if you ever wanted to jailbreak your phone, or do anything that could possibly wipe data, you would lose access to all accounts that Safari handled for you. iTunes Music, same thing as Google Play Music, they really both based their services on Spotify. Siri of course is highly intelligent and gives you company when you have no friends, and now the interface is lighter and simpler. Nothing too new here, just a UI overhaul. Must say that this is a great feature/decent gimmick. Google Now on the other hand remembers what I've searched, tells me results daily, let's me know about the NBA Finals I've recently been searching about, etc. Still can't have a real conversation with it, but I'm only going to mess with Siri for the first day I have an iPhone then probably not touch it again. App Store looks... different, and that's it. Yet again just another UI overhaul. Find my iPhone has been around for a while, but some cool new features have been added. Android has equivelants, yet again, like Lookout or Find My Phone. Over all iOS 7 seems like a giant UI overhaul, yet still missing features like widgets, and real live wallpapers, and customization in general. Everything iOS 7 has, I've had it for months. What about y'all? UI over functionality? I love the new update but it just isn't enough to make me want to switch OSes. Apple, iOS 7 keeps users; not gain them. RE: WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - V1anD3lR3y - 06-11-2013 They got the flat design from windows phone and copied many things from android. now apple starts copying ideas from other OS like windows phone and android. since jobs died, they dont invent fantastic ideas like jobs did. Mavericks sounds good but doenst have not much new features so its not worth to get mavericks RE: WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - xevenofhearts - 06-13-2013 (06-11-2013, 09:53 AM)V1anD3lR3y Wrote: They got the flat design from windows phone and copied many things from android. now apple starts copying ideas from other OS like windows phone and android. since jobs died, they dont invent fantastic ideas like jobs did. RE: WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - V1anD3lR3y - 06-14-2013 Yes!!!!! RE: WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - V1anD3lR3y - 06-14-2013 Yes!!!!! RE: WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - chmod - 06-15-2013 The thing that annoys me about apple is that they use androids idea's freely and call it " integrating useful features" but if anyone designs a phone/tablet that remotely resembles an iThing in any way, shape, or form they instantly launch a lawsuit against the developers claiming copyright infringement if you're going to use someone elses ideas be prepaird for them to do the same and don't act like children about it. RE: WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - xevenofhearts - 06-15-2013 @chmod great point. honestly I first saw iOS 7 and thought it might be competition then realized all it was was a bunch of new icons. RE: WWDC - Thoughts on iOS 7 - chmod - 06-15-2013 It's not just a bunch Of new icons there are also a lot Of ideas stolen from other platforms, mainly Android but also (and this proves how desparate they are) Microsoft. Its not just since jobs died. its just gotten more blatant. What got more blatant? Jobs was a visionary. I will say though that if he were alive he would be stubborn as hell and probably wouldn't change his ideas. |
