I have PSO BlueBurst and am quite high level, around 122 or something and am now going for pso2
I think there's only the Japanese version atm but there are english patches
If anyone's interested I can give you the links as well ^^

I never played PSO, but I played PSU on the XBOX 360. I played it for quite a while until the servers were shut down. I've been following PSO2 as well, it looks quite nice, will be playing when English version comes out.

Well as I said, there are english patches
And it's kind of a pity about PSU... The private server isn't progressing and well... guess it was good while it lasted... I remembered the last few days playing on a friends account like crazy, doing missions and whatnot so that the data would be sent to the people making the private server...
Turns out a lot of the data on PSU was really hard to read or encrypted or something and then later they just halted it... it is playable I think but still with a lot of flaws... that and it's offline.
But you can try pso

And also a fun fact, Phantasy Star Online was the first MMO ever and it was on the Dreamcast

Yea, I haven't really been keeping up with the game lately, just waiting for them to release it in NA. If I remember correctly the English patches didn't translate a lot of the content (unless they've been updated), and I thought they banned players who used English patch?

That I am not sure but I'll try it.
Either way... if they did ban players using the english patch maybe it was because they were talking in english or something... no?

And found this there:

Using the <target>, <class>, <pa>, <technic>, or <area> macros will broadcast the translated message. Do not use them in public parties."
So yeah, I think it's up to the players if they are banned or not
