Proper etiquette and, Know how - LoneDevil - 12-21-2012
As the title suggests, in this I will be teaching you the new members proper forum etiquette, to the know how of this forum (aka what goes into what section).

Section 1.A Flaming.

For proper forum etiquette, you need to know that everybody does indeed have their own opinion, that's going to be a massive thing found in the online world, and yes you should voice your own opinion, but you need to make it come off in a way that isn't considered "flaming".
A small example to this would be the following, member A saying: "I love the movie battlefield Los Angelas."
Then member B saying:"I rasslefrackin hate battlefield Los Angelas, it's for immature wannabes".
Basically the whole point is, state your point/opinion, in a way that would not be considered flaming towards people of a different opinion.
Example is member C saying: "I didn't much care for the movie."
Note in example of member C he's not throwing any made up cuss words, nor is he using what some might consider stronger language like hate.
A small example to this would be the following, member A saying: "I love the movie battlefield Los Angelas."
Then member B saying:"I rasslefrackin hate battlefield Los Angelas, it's for immature wannabes".
Basically the whole point is, state your point/opinion, in a way that would not be considered flaming towards people of a different opinion.

As this is an international forum, users need to speak English at all times, except when in the Multi Language Lounge
Now we at HC understand, that not everyones grammar will be of the best quality, but when asking a question, or giving help try to make your point clear, and when in doubt ask members or staff, you can pm for assistance with grammar. (I might even make a basic grammar tutorial later).
Now if some one misunderstands you, or you misunderstand some one, don't get angry with them be calm cool and collected, the three C's.
Try re-reading what they have posted, to see if you might be able to figure out the point they are trying to get across, if you can't figure it out, then just move on and leave it alone as to avoid potential flaming.
Now we at HC understand, that not everyones grammar will be of the best quality, but when asking a question, or giving help try to make your point clear, and when in doubt ask members or staff, you can pm for assistance with grammar. (I might even make a basic grammar tutorial later).

A proper discussion would be some thing for example in general discussion, "What's the weather like in your country?"
Also remember, don't just reply with one line think your post out, because HC unlike other places, believe it, or not is about quality, not quantity.

Forum announcments, which is where you can post things like "xyz feature is not working." And you can give your feedback on certain updates (which when updates are made usually the admin will post a thread so before starting a new one just search)
And in that thread you can say for example: "I love the snow, so festive!"
And the subsection of announcments, Suggestions.
Which is a place to where you can post your various suggestions to the site, there's already a good "guide" by another member so I'll just put it Here. (credits go to Raso)
The Update Log. is where admins will let the members know of new features, normal members are not allowed to make new threads in this section, however they can post in the threads the admins make.

Alright, I decided since it's taking me so long to add on to this, (I've been editing it in wordpad) that I would open it up, so users can suggest things they would like to see added to this, Now once this is done so it doesn't confuse new users, all suggestions will be deleted, but credit will be given to your name at the bottom of the tutorial.
Now bluedog said that if he likes it after it's finished, that it'll be added to the rules.
SO come up with some nice suggestions, so you can technically have your name in the offical rules, by the law of transferal. ;p

1. Use a proper thread title, that tells others what problem you have.
A proper title is not:
I need help ...
HELP
Can someone explain?
WHAT SHALL I DO?
I wanna hack
Problem with page
But a proper title might be:
How do I change registry in Windows
Arch Linux pacman error
Java - NullPointerException, what is the cause?
2. Don't expect people to spoonfeed you.
If you have a problem, try to solve it on your own first. Use the search (google, forum search) and check, whether your problem is already solved somewhere before posting your question.
3. Make it easy for others to help you.
Describe the problem properly. Describe your goal and what you have already tried to solve this.
i.e. if you have a programming problem:
- Post the exact error message.
- If there is no error, explain what you expect and what happens instead. Do not just say "it doesn't work".
- If your code is large, try to trim it down to a compileable little code example that has the same problem/error. Codesnippets that are not compileable are often not enough to help, because the cause of the problem might be elsewhere.
- Make your code readable, maybe use comments to help others understand; use english language for coding.
4. If you solved the problem, write into the thread what helped you and how you solved this.
This way other people with the same problem can see, what really works, and people that want to help won't work through your problem unnecessarily.
