Hi,
have you heard of the device called Occulus Rift? It's a virtual reality headset, which looks very promising. VR is nothing new, but Occulus Rift offers high view field so you really feel like you're in the game, low-latency head tracking and very affordable price!
Many large and small developers are already looking into this, I myself ordered two prototypes, so I can't wait for them to come and experiment with them and play! ^^
I'm planning some games with support for this and also some other special applications/experiments :3 I'll show you more when I get the prototype.

You can find that information on the web-page I linked. I paid $575 for two prototypes + shipping. I don't think you can order any more prototypes at this point though, I'll be receiving mine around December (as everyone else).
Although if you're not a developer, I would perhaps suggest waiting for the consumer version, prototypes are for developers mostly.

I don't think so. Prototypes are usually very expensive (I saw a prototype of 4G USB modem before, which cost around $1500, but then it's sold at fraction of that price) and also, the prototype is much cheaper than other VR devices on the market.
For example a consumer version of one VR device that Sony offers costs $1000 and has actually worse specs than Occulus Rift, so I think it's quite cheap already.
