I want to learn how to encrypt and decrypt code. I tried searching in google for beginners tut, but I couldn't find anything useful. I would be glad if someone told me where should I start learning cryptography from. I'm interested in knowing the mechanism and not just breaking codes using some software or something similar..

HERE is an ebook that explain a lot of encrypting methods used in history and offer a story encrypted that you have to decrypt to exercise and with solution included, so you can learn some basic stuff from this ebook and try to make your own encryption if you want.
