Installing Linux threw a USB Flash/SD card[PROBLEM] - d3nial - 12-03-2011
This is the weirdest problem I have ever encountered. Bare with me, because I gaurantee it will take your brain for a spin.
I have about 5 towers(desktop computers) at my house with 3 laptops. The one computer I am after is a Shuttle Barebone with NO cdrom drive. I install everything threw usb. Small backround, I use to work for a company that did digital displays. We used ubuntu for our comps. So I have backround in installing ubuntu threw unetbootin on nocdbay'd drives. Well recently I wanted to make a small webserver at my house... So I tried to install centos on the shuttle, turns out it doesnt work! I tried the same install on my laptop and i got the boot to work. Crazy? Kinda! Now check this. I run to 3 other comps to make sure it wasnt a fluke... Sure enough it works on those comps... So why wont it install on my shuttle barebone? My boot order is, USB-FDD, USBCDROM, USB-ZIP, all fail, go to HDD. Yes I said USB-FDD that is how we always installed ubuntu, which is the ONLY linux distro to work.
I am very curious because i had the same problem with backtrack, gentoo, debian, and fedora. So obviously its not the linux platform that its based off of. It can't be a crap download because it works on other computers. My best bet is the MoBo is having a panic attack.
I want this on my shuttle because all my other comps are in use, they were strickly for testing the USB-Drive.
Any thoughts?!?

Well I had a kind of the same problem with my laptop. It won't boot usb. The way I fixed it was changing my usb port. It looks like USB 3.0 can't boot
