Infinity is correct, you can't negative rep somebody for asking reputation.
However making a thread for the sole purpose of asking reputation is spamming.
I will add this in the FAQ just to make it sure next time.

Yeah I was going to mention that after some more thought, just a junk post. I'm sure asking for rep was meant to be okay, as long as the thread in some way was helping others on the forum at the same time.
