AutoIt vs VB.NET - FunKx - 11-25-2011

So yeah, which do you prefer? Advantages, disadvantages. I'd like to know, and maybe some of you too.

VB.net is fully supported by windows duo the framework updates
i rather code in a envoirement microsoft provides instead of some third-party AutoIt app.

But this doesn't mean that AutoIt sucks i think you should use whatever you find easy to understand and use.

Language doesn't make the programmer special, it's the other way around. Smile
I can't choose either of them since I only use VB.Net.

imo, autoit3. It is more powerfule, a LOT more simple, no large downloads can call external languages an uses window APIs. Its one of the easiest and powerful languages.

Au3.

Advantages:
  • Inbuilt AutoIt meaning if a person opens your compiled .exe autoit will be installed on the computer thats why the executable sizes are huge Wink
  • GUI style editing unlike VB.Net which you need to do 7 lines of code just to edit the style of a control you can use a single function for that Smile
  • No OS dependency
  • Has required functions which like the simplest is ProcessClose() that you need to make your own in VB.NET :O
  • You can code the GUI
  • Awesome support forum
  • Installation comes with a form designer and a window info and handle grabber and a simple macro recorder! Smile
  • DLL easy usage including making structures
  • Easy error handling
  • Can send and receive data between the autoit application and other running applications using a single line of code
  • Simple TCP and UDP support
  • IE UDF support which is handy for making bots
  • Comes with a project source encrypter in the autoit installation
  • Easy mouse and keyboard simulation
  • EASY AND I MEAN EASY GDI+ USAGE!!!
  • UAC won't stop your application! If you don't trust me try for yourself Smile
  • Easy to use with command line executables such as 7z.exe
  • Easy FTP usage
  • Easy controls managment
  • Not-Too-Hard Keyboard hooking
  • Many windows Constants can be included in the proect
  • Easy string manipulation and even a _StringRepeat function!
  • ...

Disadvantages:
  • Large executable size
  • De-compilable ( but you can simply prevent that Wink )
  • No multi threading support Sad
