Start of programming - Genius2011 - 11-04-2011
Hey
I should like to start programming, but i don't know which language i should learn first. I took a look at Java, C and PHP. Some people says that it's not good to start with PHP, cause you dont know how to use the variables. What do you think?Greetz Genius

I'll start learning Visual Basic, after that i'll take a look at AutoIt. Do you have any recommended Tutorials or Sites about AutoIt?

VB.net is good for starters because it's can easy language, but it has habits that make programmers lazy. I first started out with C++, and although it was hard to understand at first, I got the hang of it later on. Remember, to learn a language properly, never copy paste code that you don't understand, don't move to advanced topics without building your foundations, and always make programs in relevance to the topic you are learning, or you will forget it easily.

If you want to become a dedicated programmer, start with C.
If you want to code for fun (as a hobby), it is a good idea starting with FreePascal & Lazarus. The new Pascal (Extended Pascal) is a very powerful programming language (and continues to grow) perfectly suited even for OS development. You can do in Pascal whatever you do in C/C++, the only problem is insufficient codebase, because the reputation of Pascal as a toy language has unfairly persisted in many places.
