Does Religion Start Wars? - Oni - 08-02-2014

Do you believe that religion starts wars?

Personally, I don't. Faith itself shouldn't be considered the cause. Disagreements start wars, and people tend to disagree on religion a lot. But, I do acknowledge there have been many disagreements on religion that have caused wars.

Dirty arabs who support the death of everyone who's not a muslim causes wars.

For example:
"Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the Fire. As often as their skins are consumed We shall exchange them for fresh skins that they may taste the torment. Lo! Allah is ever Mighty, Wise." -- Quran 4:56

"Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." -- 9:5

"I [Allah] will throw fear into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Then smite the necks and smite of them each finger. That is because they opposed Allah and His messenger. Whoso opposeth Allah and His messenger, (for him) lo! Allah is severe in punishment." -- 8:12-13

"Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah." -- 9:29

"We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve." -- 3:151

"Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks." -- 47:4

You could have said "religious intolerance" and not gotten a warning. Tongue

Of course religion starts wars. Just look at crusades, those were solely based on beating up others that didn't like their religion. I can't believe people used/still fight over these things. I think it's pretty immature.

Yeah religion definitely starts wars, i've watched a couple videos about some guy going over to a bunch of Mexican Christians that were rioting on the streets & making them stop rioting because it woke him up early in the morning.

Basically sums up my stance on the issue. I think that people will fight, battle, and go to war with each other for one simplified reason: they can't see eye to eye.

No. Religion doesn't start wars. People start wars.
It's the same argument for armaments. Weapons don't kill people. The people who wield them kill people.

Humans thrive off conflict and such immediate and shallow arguments like those above ( no offense ) are the things that start wars. We immediately go against anything that we are skeptical or don't enjoy. Humans are brattish, spoiled, and throw tantrums which, on a global scale, is a war.

If we had no religion we would split into factions and war yet again. To say we wouldn't is the most blindingly asinine thing to believe or say, even jokingly.

Unsure if joking.

Wow. Links.
It almost seems like this thread isn't made for you to express your feelings in your own words or something.

As usual, MiS and I agree.

I was just going to mention the quote Guns don't kill people, people kill people, but couldn't create the right context to mention them in.

Nope, i'm not joking. I don't remember what the video was called, but i'm not joking around.
