Animation: The Old to the New - Jiggly - 03-23-2014

I've been watching a few random shows recently and I was thinking about the animation quality/styles. You can often tell the difference between anime made in the 80's compared with recent releases. When I first started watching anime, I couldn't stand the older styles. Now I'm much more open, as I found it was the quality of the story that mattered to me at the end of the day. I still love really sexy looking animation though. You know what I mean, the amazing colours and flawlessness of some really new releases xD

I wondered what everyone else preferred when it comes to styles in terms of age. Oh and name some of your favourites!

Todays animation can often come as a double-edged sword. The animation can be nice and good but it sucks up the budget, thus resulting in adaptions that get rushed and thus ruin their chance of the anime making it into the big-sellers.

I agree. I've been very general with this thread. I think budgets make a huge difference and age is certainly only a small factor.

I am interested in the art style alone and how it's changed over time. Obviously there are a heck of a lot of anomalies. Lol.

Animation doesn't really concern me much. I'm all about the characters and story. I PREFER the newer animations, of course because they are more crisp and what not but I have a few older animes that I have enjoyed too. Can't judge a book by it's cover.
