Tapping Into VoIP calls using Wireshark

Alright, so the first thing you are going to want to do is download Wireshark from here.
Then head over here, and download the second sample under SIP and RTP called "SIP_CALL_RTP_G711".
Open Wireshark, under files click "open", and open the rtp_example.raw.gz that you just downloaded.
Scroll over Telephony at the top right, and then click on VoIP calls.
You should see a selectable row. Click on it, and then click player.
A popup will open, and you should see several buttons. Click the one that says "Decode".
Now you should see two audio sets. Click the one you want to listen too, and then click "Play".
Viola, you just successfully hacked into to an unencrypted VoIP conversation (legally)!
Now that you understand how to listen to unencrypted VoIP calls, you will be able to listen real conversations by running a capture, then running a VoIP call, and following the steps above starting from "Scroll over Telephony ..."

Yes, you need to have access to the network.

Great tutorial... just wondering if you might know which services this currently would work with? I am guessing most free services like google voice and what not else are encrypted, but could be wrong??
Maybe I will have to do some testing later on...

Too bad almost no one uses VOIP calling these days, otherwise this would be useful.
