Canada - Emerald - 01-22-2014

Has anyone else noticed how Canada is generalized into a country as a whole?

When I'm watching television, especially, I notice everything to do with Canada
is just assumed. I was watching a show where they display clips of people doing
whatever. They always label the city, and state of where each video took place.
(Keep in mind, they never said which country)

However, when in came down to a clip in Canada, instead of display something
like "Victoria, BC", just "Canada" was displayed. I understand that this is American
television, but seriously. You could have even said "BC, Canada",
which is a province for those of you who don't know.

Now this is just one example.
I also notice, (online especially) that people have these stereotypes about Canada
and they believe them! I've been asked over Xbox if I have ever been on a polar bear, or have lived without snow before. I've even been asked if there are more
than 1,000,000 people in Canada!

People also tend to think it's always cold here. Cold as in like -30C, or -22F. It's actually not. Yes, we do have winters that are that cold, or dip down to that cold
occasionally. But, where I live our summers reach about 35C-40C on the hottest
days which is about 95F-104F. So it isn't like we are constantly wearing coats and shoveling.

We also seem to be heavily associated with bacon, and maple syrup.

I could go on for days about the stereotypes, but I won't.
Feel free to ask questions.

Or give your input.
