Target says some PINs stolen but confident data is secure - Feat - 12-28-2013

Quote:Target said PIN data of some customers’ bank ATM cards were stolen in a massive cyberattack at the third-largest U.S. retailer, but it was confident that the information was “safe and secure.”

The stolen PIN data was “strongly encrypted” when it was removed from Target’s systems, spokeswoman Molly Snyder said in a statement Friday.

I still think those whose data was stolen should change their security credentials.

I'd have to agree with you on that considering this is what most companies say after a breach.

Everyone should still change their card numbers and pins.
If mastercard has been hacked in the past, I doubt Target has stronger encryption.

If it was possible for them to be hacked once, it's possible for those encrypted codes to be cracked as well. I'm not sure why they're so confident. Nothing's impossible anymore. Tools and malicious activities evolve as cyber security does.

They're idiots in case you don't remember plus it is their job to make their customers feel comforted.
