The UK education system - lux - 03-07-2014

I really cannot be fucked to write a proper thread on this.

Discuss your experience with the UK education system, and the teachers within it below.

RE: The UK education system - Uzinero - 03-07-2014

Oh boy, we had a massive discussion on the "Worst thing you've ever done" thread about this, not sure if it would be LQ for me to copy paste it here though..Meh, fuck it.

Here's the things I posted on the other thread:

(03-07-2014, 07:31 PM)Uzinero Wrote: That's the thing about British schools though, unless you go to a private one or are in a very nice area, it's probably absolutely shit when it comes to bullying. Teachers in the UK are fuckwits, I was getting bullied by groups of 10 people, all like 3-4 years older than me, when I went to them they said it was banter (because punching someone and making fun of their disabilites when you don't even know them is banter >.>) and then when I kept going to the teachers about it the teachers proceeded to call me a "tell-tale" (since apparently telling them multiple times about groups of 10 people who are bullying you is telling tales, even if it's the same people as last time and they've never done anything about it.) and they actually started to bully me themselves, putting me in classes below my test scores, talking shit to me and insulting me, blaming me for things I didn't do, ganging up on me, sending emails to all staff members about shit I did (when I didn't even do anything.) and then having the teachers "accidentally" leave it up on the class projectors so everyone read all that they said I did and hated me for it. and a few times sending me down to ISS then having my next period teacher ask where I was, and when told that I was in ISS, the previous lessons teacher who sent me down there (always for made up bullshit that never even happened.) would deny that they sent me down there so I'd get shit for trying to skip lessons, and my teachers often marking me as late even if I was early so that I would get detentions for being late. All I tried to do when I went to school was get by under the radar and get some good grades, then I started getting bullied and the teachers made it 100x worse when I tried to get help. Norway may be good for bullying, and my example may be a kinda rare one even in the UK since I'm in a really shit area, but believe me, where I am teachers were never there to fucking help you, besides, even in some of the nicer areas this kind off thing still happens a lot in the UK now. After all that bullshit in school I started doing homeschooling instead, and on the homeschooling forums I know off I've seen quite a few people, even in private schools in the UK in really nice areas who have had almost the exact same happen to them. UK is a shithole, the teachers are cunts and the school system is corrupt.

(03-07-2014, 08:42 PM)Uzinero Wrote: I tried to avoid conflict with teachers, though there was one maths teacher who I called a bitch and told to go fuck herself once when I nearly missed my grandad's birthday because of her being a cunt (long story, basic summary is I told her at the start of the lesson I had to go to my grandad's birthday immediately after because I had to be home 10 minutes after school ended or I couldn't get there in time since it was the last lesson of the school day, so then she didn't teach one of the new things we had never came across before and were supposed to be getting the basics of that lesson, so only the people who already knew about it from elsewhere knew what to do, then she proceeded to say at the end of the lesson that all of those who hadn't learnt it yet she would explain afterwards, in a line, starting on an opposite direction of me so I was last place, and nobody could hear her or see what she was showing in the examples unless she was explaining to them, and she was taking around 2 minutes per student with like 10 students still waiting to be explained and me last, I told her I couldn't wait because I had to go and she started shouting at me, I said well I have to go I told you at the start of the lesson I need to go immediately after and began to walk towards the door, she began screaming at me and insulting me and shouting to come back, I just said "no" repeatedly, she insulted me again and I said "go fuck yourself bitch" and walked out. Probably an over reaction on my part on that one, but she had been insulting me and most of the class almost every day for the 2 years we had her as our teacher and constantly screaming at us all for no reason, so she kinda deserved it.) Oh, and I once said fuck off to an English teacher after she called me fat and made fun of my disability in front of the entire fucking class. (around 25 people.)

I see where you're coming from, but your post seems a massive over reaction to me. Whilst I did generally avoid conflict with my teachers, I did once or twice try to explain to them in private my side a few times, and you know where that gets you in the UK? In detention...After school....For an hour....Every day...For a week. Now I really do understand where you're coming from a lot though, because I used to really hate the people in school that would just start bullshit with the teachers because they could, but there's a big difference between starting shit with a teacher and defending yourself from shit from a teacher.

(03-07-2014, 08:50 PM)Uzinero Wrote: I wanted too but figured it wasn't worth it, the school never did anything about complaints and I figured it was best to just hold out for the homeschooling than go through the drama of police reports. Also updated with the math teacher story, but very basic, a lot more shit happened with that which caused me to get so pissed off but I cba to spend an hour explaining Tongue

(03-07-2014, 08:56 PM)Uzinero Wrote: Oh, didn't know about that before. Meh, too late now anyways, been doing homeschooling for the past 2 years. Smile

Some of this will be kinda out of context I guess since a lot of it was replying to quotes from Lux's posts on the previous thread, and as he also knows through PM:

Quote:I reported the teachers to the head teachers a few times and they said they had spoke to them, also one of my friends mum was a dinner lady at the school, and when we stopped being friends she started giving me shit at school everyday, so me and my parents spoke to the head of year and he said he'd speak to her about it, a few days later he said she'd apologized but still heard her talk about me to other dinner ladies a lot and just stand in the corner of the room glaring at me (Like it was all my fault her son decided he preferred his new friends to me and didn't want to hang out with me anymore lel.)

EDIT: Thought I'd point out in case anyone wasn't sure, reason I copy pasted instead of just not replying or just linking to where I posted on the previous thread is so that people can read what I said about it with convenience since they don't have to go to another thread to do so.

The UK has a better than average education system, I'm not from there myself but it falls way higher on the list than most countries, what would be the problem?

RE: The UK education system - cr33pyguy - 03-11-2014

I've never been to the UK. But I'm assuming that it's a bit like the american system, with both private and public schools?
I personally come from Finland, where all education is completely free and public, and there is no elite school, or any difference on the level of education between schools for that matter.
Do tell me about the system though.

Yeah it does becuase we're not a 3rd world country (despite what seems to be popular belief). Most of our education is rated higher than Americans. However, just because the system works it does not me that it's good. The teachers are idiots, the school's are hell and it's just not a fun place to be. They teach you what you need to know to pass the exams, not what you need to do for the real world.

RE: The UK education system - Cressi - 03-11-2014

I like the school system from high school and above. Below that, I think the generalization is way too perpetual, and I think we need segregation to get kids the education they deserve.

Less of a systemic issue, more of a cultural thing. In the UK, hyper-conservatism was( still is? ) the norm. You're very much taught to pick yourself up by your bootstraps.

Well don't know about you lot but the education in Stoke is fucking dreadful haha!

RE: The UK education system - Oni - 03-11-2014

I'd be interested in hearing about the university system, as I am considering doing an exchange/transfer.

DO IT.

UK University is considered the most fun, educational and worth-while form of education in the UK. You totally should do it.
