Multi-emulator(or at least MAME) Frontend, Working with Lubuntu? - Anizeb - 01-27-2014

I've set up an arcade cabinet, or at least I've started to, and I've been ripping my hair out trying to find a frontend that actually works with my version of Lubuntu.

I've tried damn near everything, and I've scoured Google for days.

Every Linux (and even Windows ones, via WINE, they don't work because they need the Windows MAME which is bunk on Ubuntu/Lubuntu) frontend listed here, I've tried a couple Python ones from Google Code, I've tried the rom manager for XBMC, I've even tried a couple that were in the Ubuntu Software Center.

None of the bastards work, and I would really, REALLY like it if I could find one that does.

So if anyone happens to have any specialized knowledge of this subject, it'd be greatly fucking appreciated, because I've damn near lost my mind here.

Shot-in-the-dark, I imagine, but still. I'd seriously rather not have to make my own, so I'm trying one last thing before I go and do that...

For posterity: PyRetro functions well enough on Lubuntu.

Two downsides, however.
First, the controls can't be easily configured. You'll have to manually edit the source.
Second, it seems to scan the whole harddrive for roms, so it takes god damn ages to index your collection. (without any indication as to progress, no less)

If you have the time/skills/care to make your own frontend, I would.
Otherwise, this will suffice.

I thought MAME had a linux port. Maybe not a frontend, but the command line version isnt that hard to use. Even so, I use MAMEUIFX, which sadly, only has windows binaries.
