How has the scene changed in the past 8 years? - Jjsh0 - 10-23-2026

I've been out of the game since about 2018.

How's the hacktools nowadays? How different are the methods? Did AI change a lot of things up? How's modern opsec etc?

Welcome back. Honestly, AI has been the biggest shift since 2018 — it is used on both sides now, for writing code and phishing content on the offense and for detection and analysis on the defense, which has made everything faster and noisier. The methods are a lot more automated and commercialized than they used to be, and modern opsec is stricter because telemetry and logging are everywhere. The fundamentals still apply, they just come wrapped in better tooling.
