Has anyone SE’d gold or silver - Bede - 09-21-2024

I was recently looking around to find things to se and stumbled across gold being a potential item. It’s high value to weight ratio would make it ideal to sell. There’s some threads on this topic but nothing major. I’d imagine with gold the EB method would be out of question as anyone dealing with gold will most definitely have cctv installed.

Something like gold would probably require increased delivery verification like an otp if you were thinking of trying dna. I doubt they'd just drop and go.

Well I’d imagine they would deliver like any other company would. Using someone to outsource their delivery function. I don’t see how it would be any different to any other company.

Yeah but I'm guessing sellers be more inclined to pay extra for additional shipping security considering the nature of the merchandise. Just be prepared to deal with a signature requirement, otp, or whatever else they might have in place.

I’ll keep it in mind . I’m not planning to refund an insane amount . I’ll definitely give it a go soon with one of these larger bullion sellers in the UK.

I tested the EB method on a retailer in north America that sells gold. Ended up hitting a 14 karat ring with EB however as expected they claimed that the retail associate had packed the ring accordingly. The investigation was closed as a failure however I did a charge back with the bank and they did not respond, so at the end i received the refund and the SE was a success overall. Most of the jewellers ship their gold out directly from in-store locations rather then warehouses. This means CCTV is your biggest enemy. EB is not recommended unless you commit to a charge back and hope they don't respond. Furthermore, you will not find much info on this forum in regards to Jewellery for obvious reasons.

In conclusion, DNA in general is your best bet. There are gold jewellers out there who don't require signature on arrival, and even if they require signature, you should sign using a fake name so you have a better chance of success. Secondly, you can find a retailer that ships their products from warehouses so that the odds of CCTV are much lower. And the last option, find an exact copy of that jewellery piece that is gold plated and stamped [dhgate and aliexpress carries them]. Then swap the pieces and return it.

I figured dna was the best way to go. I was thinking EB was potential my possible from the larger bullion stores in my locations as they would most likely be shipped from warehouses. And it’s an added plus that you don’t have to pay a stupid 20% vat on the gold/silver.
