Need help with a chargeback. (microsoft) - TorUser827PlsNoBan - 02-26-2024

I need some advice, I had a legitimate DNA happen to me with Microsoft. It was under $200.
I called in, went through the whole process, and got denied for a refund after almost a month of back and forth with different reps.
I want to chargeback but I'm not sure what to say. Should I tell them I did not authorize the charge, or tell them  the whole thing I went through?

From what I understand  they are much more willing to side with you if you say the card was stolen, but I'm worried microsoft will show them the chat logs of me saying I bought it.

I thought they would only issue a chargeback if some type of fraud is the reason.

Why would you initiate a charge back saying the card was stolen? Just tell your CC company it did not arrive, provide them with necessary info and let them handle the rest. That's literally what cards were designed to do - protect the consumer.

Is this real?
That's amazing if true. I always thought the CC company would only refund you if you said it was because the card was stolen. Do they really side with customers on legit issues like DNA?

Saying your card was stolen wouldn't work if you used a device/IP/address that has already been linked to you. Well, it might, but they can see all of that information and more so there is a high likelihood of it being rejected.

Chargebacks aren't some sort of magical, no-evidence needed type of action. You seem to have no idea how chargebacks work and I don't blame you for it, but I'd highly suggest spending some time reading into it before opening one. Go on Reddit and search for posts from people detailing their own chargeback experience using your your specific bank and from there you'll be able to gain an idea of how it works, how long it takes, and what sort of information you may need to send them.

GL.

By the way, does your Microsoft's order tracking # show it as having been delivered to your address? Did Microsoft refuse to investigate or to open a trace into the package? What reason did they give for denying your refund? (These are just a few questions that you'll likely be asked by your bank in response to your chargeback.)

Thanks, I did not think you could even talk about chargebacks publicly like reddit.
Microsoft opened an investigation, I called over the phone, got an Indian call center, they gave me "you need to call back in 2 weeks when we finish the investigation" twice because they said they had no idea what I was talking about after the first 2 week wait, then they told me the package was delivered according to tracking and they are not legally liable.

I've done several DNA SE's without an issue, but they seem to want to go hard on this legit issue.
Item was a special edition Xbox Controller, less than $100.

I see.

What does the tracking history show? If it was delivered via UPS or Fedex, it'll most likely have a picture and by viewing it you'll be able to tell if it had been delivered to your address or somewhere else. If it was via USPS, it might be a tad tougher but they're pretty good at tracing packages and if was misdelivered or never got to you, they should've found out after the investigation.

Unless you literally can't survive without the $100, I'd honestly just take the loss and save the chargeback for something big. Chargebacks are really powerful and you can typically only use them a few times a year with any given bank, so you should be saving them to be used on large, $3k-15k orders, otherwise you'd basically be wasting them.

I'd keep pushing hard or simply take the loss and refund something easy and fast to sell in order to get back the capital you lost. Just my 2c. Don't waste a chargeback on $100.

This would be the correct take. When I use my CBs, it's usually for over 750+, and under 2k. The rationale is that the $ value should be worth it enough, and also not raise too much suspicion (who regularly spends more than 2k/purchase?). You could probably do larger amounts, but this is where I'm comfortable. I generally do about 3/4 CBs a year, 1 per card. I spend far more than the CBs are worth, so the CC company has always sided with me as it's always different things. I rotate credit cards as well, so they could link them back if they really cared, but for less than 2k, no bank gives a shit.

Be honest about your situation, say you never received the package, and despite communicating back and forth for about a month you have grown exhausted.

For opsec sake I don't wana give exact info, but I'm in a dorm and I think someone swiped it. They took a pic but it's just the package by the same door everyone here has.
Thanks for the info, I'm pissed I have to take the L but you are right, I won't waste it on a $60 controller.
