Today I will be showing you how to add the upper glow on this text.

First you want to write whatever you want with whatever text you want. Make the text any color besides White or Black.

Make the background Black.

Add another layer then make a white box over your text like this.

Put the opacity down to 40% on the box.

Press Select > Color Range > Using the eye dropper tool click on the light white you now have. Press Ok

Cut out the excess white by clicking on it with the grab tool and drag it out of the frame.

You can now add text effects and play with the opacity as much as you want until you have it just right.

You're Done!

Thanks for this, you could also just add a clipping mask.
