Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - 7om 8rady - 10-19-2023 Old school is the best school, when it comes to anime. So many groundbreaking classics helped shape the nature of anime and still influence modern shows to this day. There is just something about these old titles that newer anime simply cannot replicate. Old-school art styles are more charming, the use of cel animation produces better results, and older shows have more originality. I enjoy that old-school anime puts more focus on storytelling than visuals. They also emphasized quality over quantity. Old-school anime characters are more iconic and the shows are often more memorable. Most endeavour to frame nostalgia as a lamentable thing, but it veraciously makes old-school anime even preponderant. It sanctions fans to go back and relive the good old days when life was simpler, and anime had an enthusiastic incipient flair to it. Retro anime or modern anime? RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - Jiggly - 10-28-2023 I wish I had a better appreciation for older anime art styles. I think some of the storytelling is awesome and they definitely shaped the industry, but I will always gravitate towards newer shows. I'm very drawn to shows with stunning aesthetics. The industry is heavily saturated with these really beautiful visuals thanks to new technologies and I suppose now there are lot more people who have high end art skills (possibly thanks to current accessibility to digital software being so widespread alongside resources where you can teach yourself). I'm not a fan of the other styles sadly, but I know I ought to try some classics out. Are there any shows in particular that you recommend? RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - Oni - 10-28-2023 Most of my favorites are early 2000s. There's definitely some great new shows, but they sometimes feel few and far between. While nostalgia certainly plays into my preferences, there does seem to be a growing amount of shounen anime (which I'm not overly fond of). I'd always choose a good story with bad animation, over a bad story with good animation. I do like some of the more emotionally profound stories (thinking of some of the new movies that have come out). But for series that seems to be harder to achieve with the new series that are coming out. I'm not sure why. RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - HeroTero - 11-05-2023 modern ones are mroe better RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - soulpker - 11-06-2023 I can't get enough of the original 'Hunter x Hunter' and shows like 'Cowboy Bebop'. The storytelling and character depth are just top-notch. Modern anime is cool, but it just doesn't hit the same nostalgic sweet spot. RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - cstewart60 - 11-08-2023 retro pls! always retro everything loool RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - Brstmngr - 12-10-2023 Heavily disagree old school art styles are frustrating to deal with RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - Lukass2137 - 12-13-2023 Most of the old anime is not up to my taste, but Hellsing is the exception. Also, the theme of Allucard is really great, top 30 on my spotify RE: Retro Anime Or Modern Anime? - hmaiuo7e - 12-13-2023 Love the old school style <3 |
