Chargebacks and Bank? - impatient - 08-21-2023 So, my secondary bank account (the one I use primarily for SEs) has decided to close down my bank account in two months. Is that normal? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I suspect it has something to do with 5-6 chargebacks filed over the past three months. RE: Chargebacks and Bank? - Wreck_C - 08-21-2023 Huh only if the account is new or you haven't spent much on it (non refunds). You won't seem like a credible customer so they may close your account, especially if you are giving similar reasons for disputes and merchants have proofs against you. 6 is not too much in 3 months but also depends on the reasons for the dispute and if the merchant is accepting or fighting the charge backs. If all your charge backs are going to arbitration it's a bit suspect. Sometimes merchant just accept the chargeback. RE: Chargebacks and Bank? - Exodeen - 08-21-2023 The size of the bank does not influence their ability to identify suspicious accounts. A chargeback should only be considered if all other options have been exhausted; never view this approach as the primary measure of your SE's success. Depending on your country of residence, closing a bank account could significantly impact your financial history, especially if you're considering taking out a mortgage or other financial services in the future. Some advice: - Don't dedicate a bank account to SEs, they can easily be identified by customer service agents, so use them regularly to hide expenses. - Use chargeback only as a last resort: it's better to give up the item and send it back than to start a bank dispute. - If you can't get the item refunded, only make chargebacks for large amounts ($750 extra, for example), it's better to assume the costs associated with small SE - And last but not least, a chargeback is synonymous with failure, it means that your SE didn't work, you should rather review your techniques, you should never do more than 2-3 chargebacks per year. This can have a considerable impact, especially if a complaint is lodged with the police.
