WIR Clarification - Must it be from the same store at the same time? - rudder_strutter - 06-28-2023

I've looked at the blog and numerous posts, but I don't quite understand if the WIR method requires one to purchase the 'wrong' item from the same retailer around the same time to a different address (backing up the claim via internal package tracking?), or if they could get the wrong item elsewhere, so long as the same SKU is sold by both stores.

Same shop, similar time, different adress and name

So am I doing this wrong? I planned to do a WIR but I want to put the wrong item in the packaging of the correct since it weighs exactly the same but I had to order it from somewhere else.
Or does amazon only weigh the package? Because otherwise if you just order some item based on the package weight they would realize that it indeed matches, but not that of the item.

Thanks mothered, appreciate the info.

In that case, is the address that the cheaper item sent to at risk? For example could I use my legitimate address/account and a friend's (who is aware of the SE) legitimate address/account? Or would they be contacted in search of the higher value item?

OK, but what if I don't have a second amazon account? I mean there can always be missing/or wrong items in boxes, should I still try?

How do you check which items are from the same inventory?

Something to do with ASIN? That's the only unique ID I can identify. If so, how do I decipher it? The same inventory have the same x number of digits from the front/back?

That would probably be at your own risk with a low success rate, based on what mothered said

I could be totally wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of ordering both items from the same store in the same region, so that they are likely serviced by the same distribution centre, ideally keeping both items as similar to each other as possible (Two gpus, a gpu and a power supply, etc., rather than a GPU and an air fryer). But take that with a grain of salt, I'm not a pro.
