Is a blocked MacBook any use? - Nebber - 06-12-2023

Recently performed an SE on a new MacBook, I’ve been told that it’s blocked. Is there any way I can do anything with this? Could order the same item from elsewhere and then return the dodgy one? I haven’t actually opened it to check if it’s blocked yet but don’t want any links to my Apple ID or IP address so trying to avoid that for now

Moved to Social Engineering.

From my understanding, if it is blocked it's only worth spare parts.

Alright thanks for your help, I think I might just try a quick switcheroo on Amz to get myself a working one

macbook can't be blocked though. apple can reclaim if it's sent for repair if the serial number is reported as stolen/lost.

who told you that macbook was blocked?

What company? Perhaps its just a scare tactic and macbooks can't be blocked.

They cannot be blocked. They will not grant you warranty, its not like an iPhone.

Anyways, I would sell it. Fake invoice and you are good to go to buy a new one!

I’ve heard that they can be blocked by UUID number which disables all apple features from working on the device. I also wouldn’t wanna sell it on in case it didn’t work, I’m happy to SE a corporate company but I’m against fucking over my fellow people.

They can't be blocked. Same way Apple watches can't be blocked (non-cellular). They will still connect to the phone and send messages / sync with the device.

I'll second this. There's no way to block it on Apple's side. They often don't even go through the trouble of blacklisting it from support, unless you've pulled something with RMA.

On any phone call with the company in question they repeatedly mentioned about the laptop being blocked, possibly just a deterrent. I’m curious as to whether I’d be able to use it personally but I’d rather just swap it for a fresh one to be certain
