Evangelist and Marriland Discuss: The Infernal Diabetre

In this thread, we'll be covering different religious beliefs of Satanism, and how others interpret it. After teaching others about LaVeyan Satanism, Evangelist and I have researched/discussed to teach others about different forms of Satanism. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of us.

Theistic Satanism

Symbolism

The Sigil of Lucifer - Is used for Symbolic purposes along side the pentagrams and Baphomets. It is used by Modern Satanists.

The Cross of Lucifer - Represents Infinity
Foundation
In the 18th century various kinds of popular “Satanic” literature began to be produced in France, including some well-known grimoires with instructions for making a pact with the devil. The Marquis de Sade describes defiling crucifixes and other holy objects, and in Justine gives a fictional account of the Black Mass although Ronald Hayman has said Sade’s need for blasphemy was an emotional reaction and rebellion from which Sade moved on, seeking to develop a more reasoned atheistic philosophy. In the 19th century, Eliphas Levi published his French books of the occult, and in 1855 produced his well-known drawing of the Baphomet which continues to be used by some Satanists today (for example the sigil of Baphomet). Finally, in 1891, Joris-Karl Huysmans published his Satanic novel, Là-Bas, which included a detailed description of a Black Mass which he may have known first-hand was being performed in Paris at the time, or the account may have been based on the masses carried out by Étienne Guibourg, rather than by Huysmans attending himself. Quotations from Huysmans’ Black Mass are also used in some Satanic rituals to this day since it is one of the few sources that purports to describe the words used in a Black Mass. The type of Satanism described in Là-Bas suggests that prayers are said to the Devil, hosts are stolen from the Catholic Church, and sexual acts are combined with Roman Catholic altar objects and rituals, to produce a variety of Satanism which exalts the Devil and degrades the God of Christianity by inverting Roman Catholic rites. George Battaille claims that Huyman’s description of the Black Mass is “indisputably authentic”. Not all Theistic Satanists today routinely perform the Black Mass. If the mass seems to have been abandoned in Protestant countries, this may be because the mass is not a part of modern evangelical Christianity and so not such an unintentional influence on Satanist practices in those countries. If rites of blasphemy such as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit are used at all they are often solely for beginners in Satanism to help them break away from any past Christian indoctrination or restrictive internalization of society’s expectations for behavior.

Basis
Theistic Satanism, also known as Conservative Satanism, Traditional Satanism, Spiritual Satanism, and originally just Satanism, is a form of Satanism with the primary belief that Satan is an actual deity or force to revere and/or worship. Other characteristics of Theistic Satanism may include a belief in magic, which is manipulated through ritual, although that is not a defining criterion, and theistic Satanists may focus solely on devotion. Unlike LaVeyan Satanism, which was founded by Anton LaVey in the 1960s, Theistic Satanism is theistic as opposed to atheistic, believing that Satan is a real being, as opposed to purely a symbol of individualism.

The history of Theistic Satanism, and assessments of its reality or prevalence in history, is obscured by it having been grounds for execution at some times in the past, and due to individuals having been accused of it who possibly did not consider themselves to worship Satan, such as in the Witch trials in Early Modern Europe.

Scriptures
There is no designated Scripture or guide book for this religion. There are books that attempt to explain but, they aren't considered part of the Official religion.

Opinion

I have talked to various Theistic Satanists in order to make this section. They mentioned that their religion does not need a book to be successful. Satan teaches you himself. I do admire the amount of belief that this religion demands as it is the only way you will ever be good on it. I am against any religion of a Spiritual nature but that is besides the point. This is a religion based on pure beliefs and that is impressive. These Satanists are the ones that Hollywood portraits as goat-killing machines. They practice rituals as any other Spiritual religion but, media pushed it way to far.

Luciferianism

Symbolism

It doesn't have a clear symbol but, from what I gathered any portrait of Lucifer can be used for it.

Foundation
Michael W. Ford was the author of the 12 books of Luciferianism. When he founded them I couldn't really find a specific date but, he is still alive unlike the founders of the scriptures of many religions. I have contacted him and I am awaiting a response.

Basis
Luciferianism is the ideological, philosophical and Magickial attainment of knowledge and inner power via the left hand path. The type of knowledge sought is firstly that of the self: strengths, weaknesses and all that which makes us truly ‘individual’. Initiation or the revealing of knowledge is through study, practicing Adversarial Magick/Sorcery and the continual struggle for self-improvement through spiritual rebellion.

The left hand path for Luciferians is not a specific doctrine yet clearly an aspect of who we are. Luciferians are against the social concept of “God” and “Religion” as both is collective, sheep-herding doctrines which suppress knowledge, reward weakness and apathy and place unrealistic expectations on the individual for a ‘future’ reward which does not exist. Luciferians do not accept the dualistic concept of “good” and “evil”; we hold the opinion that like in nature, darkness empowers light and light establishes growth and renewal.

Luciferians do not believe in an “afterlife” in the way which Judeo-Christians do. This does not insinuate that Luciferians don’t believe in the possibility or existence of an afterlife, there is just no need to believe in the Judeo-Christian absolutes such as a blissful paradise or some horrid place of punishment where terrible demons continually torture those who do not recognize the executed criminal-turned savior and his perceived ‘father’. In short, you will be hard pressed to find a Luciferian who believes in the “devil” and in “hell”. While it was the rage in a time of the masses having no literary skills, little science and overbearing masters, in our modern age of possibility that wonderful light is being shined in areas the early Christians would surely burn us for now.

Scriptures
  • Adversarial Light – Magick of the Nephilim
  • MASKIM HUL - Babylonian Magick
  • GOETIA OF SHADOWS: Luciferian Ceremonial Sorcery and Magick
  • The Bible of the Adversary
  • Magick of the Ancient Gods
  • Scales of the Black Serpent
That is just to name the introductory ones. There are over twelve books.

Opinion
I find it very appealing how they differentiate Lucifer from Satan. Lucifer unlike Satan he is not the adversary but, a god of creation and compassion. That is interesting. It is a religion with a lot of branches such as Atheistic Luciferianism, Arcadic Luciferianism. To say the least it is a very interesting religion with a unique ideology. Most people believe that Luciferians are freemasons. I will not dig on that particular topic.

Palladists

Palladists is a name for an alleged Theistic Satanist society or member of that society. The name Palladian comes from Pallas and refers to wisdom and learning

In 1891 Léo Taxil (Gabriel Jogand-Pagès) and Adolphe Ricoux claimed to have discovered a Palladian Society. An 1892 French book Le Diable au XIXe siècle (The Devil in the 19th Century", 1892), written by "Dr. Bataille" (actually Jogand-Pagès himself) alleged that Palladists were Satanists based in Charleston, South Carolina headed by the American Freemason Albert Pike and created by the Italian liberal patriot and author, Giuseppe Mazzini.

Arthur Edward Waite, debunking the existence of the group in Devil-Worship in France, or The Question of Lucifer, ch. II: "The Mask of Masonry" (London, 1896), reports that according to "the works of Domenico Margiotta and Dr Bataille" that "The Order of Palladium founded in Paris 20 May 1737 or Sovereign Council of Wisdom" was a "Masonic diabolic order". Dr. Bataille asserted that women would supposedly be initiated as "Companions of Penelope". According to Dr. Bataille, the society had two orders, "Adelph" and "Companion of Ulysses", however the society was broken up by French law enforcement a few years after its foundation.

A supposed Diana Vaughan published Confessions of an Ex-Palladist in 1895. On April 19, 1897 Léo Taxil called a press conference at which, he claimed, he would introduce Diana Vaughan to the press. At the conference instead he announced that his revelations about the Freemasons were fictitious. He thanked the Catholic clergy for their assistance in giving publicity to his wild claims

Our Lady of Endor Coven
Our Lady of Endor Coven, also known as Ophite Cultus Satanas (originally spelled "Sathanas"), was a Satanic cult founded in 1948 by Herbert Arthur Sloane in Toledo, Ohio. The group was heavily influenced by gnosticism (especially that found in the contemporary book by Hans Jonas, The Gnostic Religion), and worshipped Satanas, their name for Satan (Cultus Satanas is a Latin version of Cult of Satan). Satanas (or Satan), was defined in gnostic terms, as the Serpent in the Garden of Eden who revealed the knowledge of the true God to Eve. That it called itself "Ophite" is a reference to the ancient gnostic sect of the Ophites, who were said to worship the serpent. The "Lady of Endor" is a reference to the Witch of Endor.

Sloane believed in a horned god, which he said was revealed to him in the woods when he was a child. After seeing Margaret Murray's book The God of the Witches, he said he realized that it was Satan (Sathanas) that was revealed to him. Sloane also corresponded with his contemporary Gerald Gardner, and implied that his views of Satan and the horned god were not necessarily in conflict with Gardner's approach. Sloane highly recommended the book The Gnostic Religion, and sections of it were sometimes read at ceremonies

Atheistic Satanism

Symbolism

Atheistic Satanists use the symbol called the "Sigil of Baphomet". This symbol has been from the old days of the Spanish Inquisition to today. The symbol became very popular when the founder of the Church of Satan decided to write the The Satanic Bible. Fun fact, did you know the Hebrew characters around the Pentagram spells out "Leviathan"?

Foundation

Atheistic Satanism was founded by Anton LaVey in 1966. Three years later, we would later see a book called The Satanic Bible that would explain the philosophical side of Atheistic Satanism, rituals, and the core principles of LaVeyan Satanism. The foundation of Atheistic Satanism based off philosophy and dogma. If you wish to learn more about this religion, Evangelist and I made a thread about it. Click here to know more about LaVeyan/Atheistic Satanism.

Basis

The basis of Atheistic Sataism is to be yourself. It is also about principles, and rules per se. Respect and equality plays into this religion also. In order to receive respect from a Atheistic Satanist, you must learn how to agree to disagree, or simply respect us. If you respect us, they'll give it right back at you. If you do not follow those simple instructions, one may be ignored. Repressed hatred can lead to many physical and emotional aliments. By learning to release your hatred towards those who deserve it, you cleanse yourself of these vicious emotions and need not take your pent-up hatred out on your loved ones. You should only love someone that you deeply trust.

We love people who we trust, not everyone in the world.. However, we believe that love is one of the most over-used terms. Forcing one to indiscriminate love is extremely unnatural and also ignorant. If you try to love everyone you only lessen your feelings for those who deserve your love.

We believe in vengeance, and we do not turn the other cheek on people. If one is completely rude to you, we hope for the best that something happens to you in the future. We do not enjoy getting physical with people who are completely arrogant and self-centered, but if there is a time and a place to do that, we will.

Sccriptures

The only scriptures we have are the books that are published around Atheistic Satanism.. The Satanic Bible will give you tons of information about LaVeyan/Atheistic Satanism. Evangelist and I strongly recommend you reading this, or even reading our thread about it.

Note: The Satanic Bible is not considered to be sacred scripture in the way the Christian Bible is to Christianity.
