Best store to SE a GPU or Processor in the US? - jujubones - 01-03-2023 My PC is 10 years old and in dire need of upgrading but I really can’t afford too at the moment due to paying silly amounts to go through the US immigration process. I was thinking of trying to SE a GPU or processor to offset some of the costs of the upgrade but would love some input as far as best store and method for a likelihood of success. Which of the two would be easier to do, where and which method? Thanks in advance! Otherwise box them. Quote: whereObviously Amazon. It’s a Ryzen 7 or 9 I was looking at and it appears they are visible externally so EB wouldn’t be possible. What do you mean when you say to box it? Sorry I’m fairly new to this! Would purchasing something else at the same time and having no issues with it make for a stronger case in trying to SE the CPU? Was thinking of throwing in some RAM that I’ll need anyway but only claim to have an issue with the CPU, unless that interferes with the other method you suggested. If it doesn’t matter I’ll just make it one of my next legit purchases before trying anything again. Thanks again! RE: Best store to SE a GPU or Processor in the US? - jujubones - 01-14-2023 I've been reading through your blog and it's been extremely helpful so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I have a few questions though now that I have more context to provide I decided to order the GPU instead of the CPU from Amazon, it was around $400 and arrived yesterday in it's original packaging and then in a general brown shipping box. No OTP or signature required, they simply left it at my door, they didn't even knock or anything. (USPS) Would an attempt at a DNA be a good first option here? The account has no refunds and it's a few years old. That is sorta why I went with the GPU, I figured it might be easier to do the boxing method on a CPU elsewhere. If that doesn't work, would I still be able to try the boxing method if I used dry ice? (since it's too heavy) and when taping the box to make it look tampered with, am I supposed to use a tape similar in colour to the box to make it discreet or a different coloured tape to make it look tampered with? The other idea was trying the health and safety route, possibly saying I put it in my PC and it started smoking so I disposed of it. Would either of the latter 2 options be feasible if the DNA didn't work out? and which would you be more likely to go with? Cheers! RE: Best store to SE a GPU or Processor in the US? - jujubones - 01-16-2023 Nope, nothing at all. This would be the first SE with the account! I'm not exactly sure, I can't seem to find the weight on the label or with tracking. Unless I weigh it myself? There was an Amazon Q&A where someone asked and the answer was 1567 g / 3.455lbs Wrong item received sounds like a solid idea if the DNA doesn't pan out. I also read about that on your blog recently so I'll revisit that. At the moment I've went through support and claimed it DNA. It was automated and I had to answer whether I had checked with neighbours, looked in the garage and front porch etc which I said I had. The response said I've to wait until Tuesday end of day and then contact again if it doesn't turn up to sort out a refund or replacement. So for now I'm just biding my time and will reach out again on the 17th. I'll update with the progress on Tuesday. Thanks again for your suggestions and help so far, much appreciated! We shall await their reply. (01-16-2023, 12:39 AM)jujubones Wrote: Thanks again for your suggestions and help so far, much appreciated! You're welcome. |
