I need to know if apple keeps track of its retailers' inventories - Unsubtle1263 - 12-14-2022 Once someone SBMs an iphone at target, to target's knowledge, the iphone is still in their inventory (at least until somone finds the sealed box doesn't have the product in it). My question is: Does Apple have any way of knowing if a phone has/hasn't been sold from a given retailer? Or does apple lose track of the phone's "bought/unbought" status once they sell it to the retailer? I'm thinking that this determines whether or not someone could SBM an iphone, and then trade it in for cash somewhere else. Does anyone know or have any experience with this? If I've posed this question confusingly please let me know and I can clarify Thanks RE: I need to know if apple keeps track of its retailers' inventories - mothered - 12-14-2022 Quote:Does Apple have any way of knowing if a phone has/hasn't been sold from a given retailer? When a sale has been made, It's communicated with Apple and they keep a record of the purchase for a minimum amount of time, which Is also known as a retention period. That's why (for example) they're well aware of whether or not a given device Is still under warranty. Quote:Or does apple lose track of the phone's "bought/unbought" status once they sell it to the retailer?Obviously not. Could apple (if checking through serial during a future warranty claim) tell that the device has been se'd?Apple does have the capacity to see the activity on the watch - namely If It's turned on. They can also blacklist It, cellular-based. (12-14-2022, 03:09 PM)pxl_rip Wrote: I hope my question is clearCrystal. Example I sell a apple watch se'd on amz... could apple (during a check under warranty from the buyer) discover that the watch has been refunded on the third party seller? So if apple knows that a given SE'd iphone/watch should be unsold and inside of a Walmart, would an Apple outlet accept the trade-in of that given phone? After all they have the serial number, which is enough to see if that device is technically unsold. Here's the second part of this reply: Is it possible to perform the "first half" of the SBM and trade in the iphone to an apple outlet, before returning the dummy sealed box to Walmart? Apple would have no reason to decline the trade-in because so far everything is completely legit. The important question with this approach seems to be: Does the act of trading in a bought iphone to an Apple outlet disable our ability to refund the dummy sealed box to walmart? When a reseller takes over, all sales etc Is their responsibility. |
