[U.S.] Gun Control - Hexology - 07-08-2013 Well we all know that Obama is pushing gun control to its limits, and recently something COMPLETELY ridiculous has happened, in the state of California, you must have a 'Tool' to release your magazine in your gun. I would like someone to explain to me how this is going to solve ANYTHING. This confuses the hell out of me and I don't see any benefits coming from this. Is this supposed to make it harder for criminals to murder people? Well criminals will obviously not follow this unjust law and will make it HARDER for us to defend ourselves, criminals will have guns without this needed tool, this point goes for the magazine capacity limits as well, this will only make it easier for criminals to either kill people, or rob stores, because we will have the limited guns, while the criminals will have what ever gun they want, because they don't care about breaking the law. The government thinks that limiting the rights on harmless, good citizens, will stop crime rates. CRIMINALS WILL DO WHAT EVER THEY NEED TO GET A HOLD OF A WEAPON, this doesn't make it harder to get, they don't usually buy guns from the store, they would buy them from other under the table dealers, because they don't want it to be traced back to them. There's so much more I want to add to this but I don't want to spend all day writing on this thread, anyways I hope you see my point on how Obama's doing useless shit thinking this will better America, when it's just taking away our second amendment, the right for all U.S. Citizens to bare arms. RE: [U.S.] Gun Control - Anizeb - 07-08-2013 That's exactly my issue with gun control laws. They prevent law abiding citizens from owning guns, and therefore protecting themselves. If a criminal wants a gun, they're going to get one. The fact of the matter is that it's too damn late to just put a choke on the supply. The amount of guns out and about already is too massive, and then there's the matter of guns being smuggled into the country, and the fact that individuals can still create them if the need arises, and not to mention even guns meant for hunting can be repurposed. And banning hunting rifles and such is an even worse idea. There is actually a large population of Americans that do rely on hunting for food. Really, what should be done is working to lower violent crime rates in general. A violent crime is a violent crime, regardless of the weapon used. I personally think that better structure in school, as well as personalized education, is really the only way to cut down on all that. That'd mean better funding for schools, and more teachers. That'd likely mean a cut military budget, but that's not a fucking problem considering the US military budget is the largest in the world, exceeding the second highest, China, by over quadruple. And then "more jobs means more spending means better economy", and improved economy leads to better quality of life, and the countries with the highest quality of life also have the lowest violent crime rates. RE: [U.S.] Gun Control - Hexology - 07-08-2013 Yup, a lot of Americans rely on hunting for not only food, but as a steady income so they are able to pay their bills, also one other point I forgot to mention was that, well, not a lot of people realize this, but the average amount of time it takes for the police to get to your house is 30 minutes, on a good day. This is extremely dangerous if you're home alone and you hear someone banging on your door outside, it could be a harmless drunk, or a criminal trying to break in, but regardless I would want the police to get to my house ASAP, and if they couldn't get there in time I would have to be able to defend myself, but with these new laws being passed, I feel that soon our guns will be limited to nearly internal magazines, with 1 bullet capacity, so it's a life and death situation when a criminal breaks in your house. I for one wouldn't follow this law, not because I'm a criminal, but for the safety of myself and my family, it out rages me that Obama's main reason of doing this is to look good during his presidency, he needs to stop focusing on what people think of him, and just do whats best for the country. RE: [U.S.] Gun Control - Kai - 07-08-2013 Guns being illegal works pretty well for the rest of the world. Sure If a criminal wants a gun they will get one, but guns being readily available doesn't help. And Obama focusing on what people think of him is the same as doing whats best for the country. The more people who like Obama must think he is doing well, government wise. RE: [U.S.] Gun Control - Anizeb - 07-09-2013 Not at all. It's about education, both with the weapons and in general. While the US has the highest "gun density", that is the number of guns per 100 people, by almost double the runners up, the third highest is Switzerland. Switzerland lacks a proper military, but they do have militias that a large amount of men over 20 join up with. This provides them with weapons training and structure. The weapons they get while training are then given to them to keep. The gun-related homicides in Switzerland in 2010 were a mere 40, while only 17 states were below that in the same year.(all of which have a considerably smaller population than Switzerland. Oh, and most of those have very open gun laws, and in fact a couple of which have more guns than Switzerland.) RE: [U.S.] Gun Control - Xanii - 07-12-2013 It's very annoying to have been in Chicago for a while and in the Illinois area before I moved that they have no ability to carry. It's getting kind of ridiculous. They keep saying that laws have to be passed, but nothing still has been done. Since that's Obama's home town he's going to enforce strict gun laws there, almost guaranteed. But I think California is suffering the most, the laws there are getting absolutely ridiculous. RE: [U.S.] Gun Control - PhargedPhreak - 02-08-2017 The second amendment is to make sure that the government doesn't go tyrannical on our asses. "Gun Control" is just the start of a slippery slope down which we've already gone, to disarm the people. You can make the argument that it "worked" for other countries. From where I stand, in the other countries, the population are easy pickings for criminals. Unless you have a cop sitting in your living room at all times, you ain't protected from shit if somebody gone come through your window and take your shit. In such a case your good friend Mr Mossberg is the only one you can rely on. Cops answer in seconds but respond in minutes. Whoooops. Too late. Plus: imagine that in Syria, the people had the right to bear arms. You think they would easily have been suppressed? My ass. |
