Amazon GPU swap? - rickroll12 - 07-19-2022

I recently SE'd a brand new 3070ti from Amazon, it was an MSI model.

I've heard Amazon is starting to check returns more thoroughly, but I was wondering if it would be a decent success rate to buy a 3080ti from MSI on Amazon, and swap the GPUs and return it. They look absolutely identical so I don't see how they would even be able to tell without plugging the card into a system and checking its specs, which I highly doubt they'd do for a simple return.

I realize the performance difference between the 3070ti and 3080ti isn't a ton, but that's not the point of the post. Would this be feasible?

Thoughts?

Correct, they've been very meticulous In the last couple of months or so.

What about the sticker on the rear of the card containing the barcode, etc.

Can It be removed and swapped without physical signs of tampering?

may i ask how you SE'd the GPU?

Was thinking of doing one myself. PC due an upgrade.

Are they exactly the same size and weight…from experience they are different albeit only a little different. Which actual model MSI card is it? Ventus Gaming Trio or Suprim?

The dimensions are exactly the same as per Amazon's item details. The listed weights are 2lbs different which I feel is a mistake. The cards look the exact same and have the same dimensions.

It is the ventus gaming trio series.

Ok I’m not sure still which card it is you are speaking about…Either the Ventus or The Gaming X Trio?

Of the 2 the gaming trio would be better suited with the 3070 ti & 3080 ti being exactly the same dimensions and the weight differing by just 57 Grams

The ventus 3070 ti and 3080 ti are the same dimensions and the weight differs by 219 grams.

Personally it seems a risky SE to try, Amazon have been meticulous in checking returns recently and also have form for disposing of the wrong item if they do notice you’ve returned the wrong one, so you could end up with no refund for the 3080 ti and them disposing of your 3070 ti.

Also did they take the serial number from you when you did your disposed of faulty item se to get the 3070 ti? Id be wary of returning an item to them that you have already claimed was faulty and you disposed of it.

I recently had success with the wrong item received method on a GPU with amazon which could offer you an alternative method.

I recently sealed boxed Amazon if that's what you're attempting to do but with a headset, along as you make the box look like it hasn't been tampered with at all and the weight matched up pretty much perfectly it should work. I got the refund

My bad, I meant the Ventus 3x plus,. I'm a bit cautious now and it doesn't really seem like the risk is worth the reward. Because if they were to discover my 3070ti, I wouldn't get it back.

Can you give more details on the wrong item method? I've been wanting to try it for a while. What specific item did you use/what could I use to wrong item a 3080ti?

The wrong item I went with after much deliberation was a AIO CPU cooler there are plenty to choose from and you should be able to find one that closely matches the weight of your desired GPU

I bought the “Wrong item” from Amazon on the same day as I ordered the GPU (using separate accounts) I ensured sizes were similar and weights near identical when choosing the “other item” to be sure for instance that the AIO would have fit in the shipping box Amazon sent the GPU in.

Then I contacted them telling them that I had been sent the wrong item, they asked me to return the wrong item and after a few calls chasing them up I had my refund 14 days later.
