Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - contriveD - 06-21-2022 Dear Community, for my next hit, I would like to push boundaries a bit and SE a vehicle. I have had my fair bit of experience and definitely think it could be done, but assuming success,, I still have some safety concerns about using the vehicle I would like to discuss in this thread. The vehicle wouldn't need to be licensed at public office,, but it does require insurance to drive legally. Obtaining this insurance means that the (identifiable) vehicle is now linked to my personal details. I am the holder of the vehicle. This doesn't pose a problem right away, at least not if the vehicle would not be reported as stolen, but a report would definitely be a risk factor. The question is if someone has ever experienced a vehicle marked as stolen, similar to the blacklisting of phones we see. In the case that this happens, I would render the chance of legal action being taken against the holder as high, especially when found that the the holder was the same person that ordered the (afterwards missing) vehicle. When the police gets involved in public traffic, simple safety measures like 1) not using any drugs at all 2) not going past the speed limit at all 3) keeping your certificate of insurance and vehicle documents with you all the time should be adhered to to avoid complications. Looking forward to your experience / assessment on this. Regards RE: Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - mothered - 06-21-2022 Well, this Is certainly a different SE to any other on this board. RE: Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - ShubhamS11 - 06-21-2022 Following this thread for informative purposes... RE: Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - Nabeshin - 06-21-2022 What kind of method are you planning on using? Not sure where you're from, but here you need some papers stating that the vehicle's owner changed, and you can't really do that if the current owner doesn't cooperate RE: Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - Turbando - 06-21-2022 How tf... SEing a vehicle is insane, nicely done (?) First, I want to clarify that it is not a car that I'm talking about. They need to be licensed at public office where I am located right now, hence messing with the necessary documents to do so means very serious theft. I am not going to do that. Rather, what I would be interested in is something like this: ![]() When you think about it, they aren't very different from the smaller electric scooters that have been discussed on this board before. Both legally need a license plate, which is provided by your insurance company. This is where problems may arise. In case your insurance company somehow detects that you are insuring a lost/stolen vehicle, serious trouble might be around the corner. In case they would provide the license plate without problems, I would guess that the police might not cause a problem either. As these kinds of vehicles don't require any extra certificates to be carried around, they don't have a direct way to check the vehicles background itself other than the license plate. Of course, they may be able to find out the vehicle was reported lost/stolen by checking (with the provider of) the license plate though. All of this is theory and I will not go ahead with this with so many unknown variables. This thread is mainly for discussion purpose. I wonder how others who have SE'd small electric scooters have handled this, as they also need insurance and a license plate in my region. Might be different elsewhere? The types of vehicles I am referring to are licensed by the insurance company and don't require that, read in my post above. SEing a car that has to be picked up physically would be a whole different story. (06-21-2022, 02:04 PM)Turbando Wrote: How tf... It's just a thought experiment as of now sadly! RE: Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - Nabeshin - 06-21-2022 Ah, electric scooters don't need a plate nor an insurance here, that's what it's probably easier to SE them (if anyone even tried) Mopeds (be them electric or not) do need both a plate and insurance, and the former is issued by the dept of transportation and bound to the S/N of the vehicle (to call it that), so even if it's stolen and re-plated the VIN (vehicle identification number) is still there RE: Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - adamzera - 06-21-2022 excellent hen you think about it, they aren't very different from the smaller electric scooters that have been discussed on this board before. As stated previously, the rules differ from country to country and scooters also do require a license from the insurer here. Without a lot more information on this, it will be too risky to pursue. A shame, as I would love to try to get my hands on one of these. RE: Vehicle SE Privacy concerns - futterbuckz - 06-21-2022 I take it you are somewhere in Europe? Considering the risk, I’m not sure SEing an electric moped is worth it. Maybe for reselling purposes in order to then legitimately buy one with the profit? Also, don’t take my word for it but I think Niu mopeds are GPS enabled, which further complicates your endeavor. As an aside, kick scooters are insanely easy to SE in North America so I might try my luck with a moped next. Will report soon. |
