I'm interested in learning how I can make my own mitigation to use on my own hosting like imperva or akamai. is there a way to make cloud scrubbers out of other people's servers?

There's a number of options for reverse proxies with protection (i.e. X4B). Hosts like OVH offer protection natively on their dedicated servers. Higher end options like Incapsula might be what you're looking for depending on scale.
