sealed box staples attempt! - fasho1212 - 01-09-2022

did a sealed box with a laptop at staples, didnt touch the top tape seal, instead cut the bottom tape where the cardboard is folded weird. opened it up from the bottom swapped out laptop with an older one, did the same with the charger. made sure to retape the bottom as best as possible, everything looked solid.

went in for the refund, said it was never opened (made a little story), cashier started processing refund. The supervisor also approached the cashier, looked at the box and also proceeded with the refund. cashier gave me receipt of refund with his signature on it, also signed for their copy too. so currently its a success

but started to walk out the store and seen that the supervisor randomly started opening the fucking box??? I quickly walked out the store and left. Why the fuck would the supervisor process and complete the refund but then open the box after? Now sitting here waiting for an update on my debit to see if the refund touched down.

a few questions for you guys
1. The refund has already processed and also have a signed receipt of it, so does that mean that they cant get it back if they notice the laptop swapped?
2. if in case supervisor dove deep inside box and noticed the laptop was different would they start an investigation with the bank?
3. Spoke to an insider who works there and they said they do not open brand new items so why would the little fucker open it?

He would've noticed an Inconsistency with the box after processing the refund.

As stated above.

Whatever action they decide to take (If any), plead Ignorance and say you've returned their product exactly as received - In Its original form.

Please do.

As said, stick with the story that you've returned what they've sold In Its original form. They have no evidence to conclude It was "you" who tampered with the box. Who's to say It wasn't one of their employees prior to the sale? Or perhaps you purchased someone else's return? There are so many possibilities that can, and will, put you In the clear.

That's If It comes down to an Investigation.

What you've experienced, can happen with any store - for the fact that It's predominantly the employee's discretion (or lack of) that determines the outcome, and not the company he/she works for.

Refund received, no other transactions besides that refund can be seen so currently a success.
is it possible they can recharge in the future without contacting me?

Generally speaking, you need to be notified when and why funds will be withdrawn from your account.
